I hope you don't mind the Explorer. It is cloudy...the vette stays in her blankie unless the sun is out.

Seriously, I think I could make a killing on here today if I sold tampax. (thanks KK :yay:)

Throw in some Midol with the Tampax and a chocolate bar and make a SOMD online PMS gift pack. :flowers:

I was looking for a way to handle it without singling out any group or disability.
It's like my kids wanting to know why there are little bumps on the wall next to the elevator - it's Braille for blind people. No biggie.

That is one thing that has always amazed me about ATM machine's with Braille especially in the drive thru. :shocking:

We used to ride a "short bus" - actually, not much more than a large yellow van we called the mini-bus. But it was because we lived about ten miles away in a development that only picked up about a dozen kids.

I've always been familiar with the expression - just, it's not always a one-to-one correspondence between the two groups.

Exactly...thus my suggested answer of stating the obvious which is the fact that the driver does not require a larger bus to complete his route.

Very true! And at lots of schools, the kids who receive Special Education services ride a "big bus." It's okay just to say it's another kind of bus....which is true. If adults get all weird about issues, that's when kids start getting all weird. Kids are born without prejudice.... but then someone has to go and teach it to them!

So happy!
My little girls Head-start bus is really small. That could of been the one your son saw. I think for the most part the handicap kids ride the reg buses. Unless the are really handicap.

Not dead yet.
My daughter goes to Calvert Country every day on a regular sized bus. They do have seatbelts, although this is mostly to keep the kids in their seats (no wandering around). Probably the best tip off for the special ed busses around Calvert is the big door in the right rear corner with a chairlift.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised that this thread didn't become a mindless game of "bash the retards." There may be hope here yet. . .

They may be BORN without prejudice - but they don't have to be *taught* to be mean to other children. They torment other kids, fight over toys, pick on smaller children, refuse to share, bite and hit - and that's just as *toddlers*. They may not care what color skin you have, but they'll make fun of you if you smell funny, are fat or short or wear glasses.

I'd hate to live in a world where adults were *exactly* like children. Children can be vicious.

I think there are people who think children "learn" to be prejudiced, and certainly this CAN happen - but kids are also *taught* not to be.

That's exactly right. Kids are born with the innate survival skill of being wary of anyone who is different from them. They *learn* to accept differences, not the other way around. The most common phrase a parent utters to their children is, "That's not how we act - now go apologize."

Exactly. All my life I've been the target of short jokes and blonde jokes. So why are jokes about the handicapped or ethnic groups so socially unacceptable?

Don't listen to that ass, TigerLily. He obviously needs to get a life and quit taking his stupid self so seriously. Notice he ranted about you on some lamer Craig's List forum instead of facing you (and the rest of us)? Cuz he a chickenshit, dat's why.
