Shots fired inside the US capitol

News report just now said there was gunfire exchange and the woman is dead.

That could be a very big shame.

by the way, how come congress and the white house still have security if the government is shut down.

Socki's link said he tried to ram the white house gates and was chased to the capital....

WTF??? If they want to go after the POSUS, they would be ramming the greens of the local golf courses. And no, that was not a typo.

I'm wondering why they didn't shoot out her tires?

They just said she is dead, shot by the police, there was a baby in the car but the aren't saying where the baby is and if it's okay. Shame if the police killed the baby too. Apparently the woman didn't have a gun and the shots fired were by the police. I just want to know why she did what she did. Some are speculating that she got to the barrier and panicked and tried to do a U turn, but why she ran from the police, guess she didn't realize that would get her shot dead.

I was sitting in the dentist office when this all unfolded, and Channel 8 said they saw a cop carrying a child away from the scene, so hopefully, if there was a child in the car he/she is unharmed.

I heard the same thing. Possibly taken to Childrens Hospital. I am surprised they didn't shoot the tires once she put it into reverse. Maybe afraid if she took off riding on rims she could have wrecked and hurt the child as well?

Good points Kat by the Bay!

1. Reminds me of when the hound dog chased a rabbit....the rabbit runs crazy..just like this woman.

2. A person was on the ground..CPR working...late an image of person on stretcher with the "Thumper" working..(automatic compression machine used by EMS units ).

3. Would hate to think she was a typical tourist ( from CT) who got lost, confused with the roads and area, got turned around and ran like a rabbit being chased by the hungry hound dogs. Maybe she was somehow related to Newtown and wanted answers from the Pres......We may never know if she is really deceased.

4. Another crazy day in paradise. ( as the song goes....)

she would have been much better off if she would have gone after an embassy somewhere.
at least then she would still be alive.

Has there been any security camera footage of her "ramming" the white house barrier? The front end of the car from whatever pics I can see doesnt appear to have really bad damage. Also, and correct me if I'm wrong (and I know y'all will ) woudlnt the airbag deploy if she were to "ram" into a barracade at a force that woudl be considered under the term "ramming"

Don't rule out a medical emergency.

Yup good point!!

Or just really tired from the drive from CT.

Heck, I get lost in this city from time to time. One day a street is open, next it is closed and you cant get "there" from "here", esp. around the Hill!!

Doesn't this sound a lot like what we are complaining about the Middle East .
Unarmed women and children being fired upon by the federal troops ?
It takes a lot of training to be able to fire on a baby !!!!

De omnibus dubitandum est
After her encounter with cops at the WH, they got close enough to know there was a child in the car. When she drove off from there in the video going around you can hear the cops shooting at the back of the car as it speed off. 8 shots to be exact.

Got this from WP:

The chase apparently stretched across downtown Washington: it started at the security barriers outside one icon, and ended at the barriers outside another.

Oregon residents B.J. and Susan Campbell saw a black sedan driven by a woman heading west on Pennsylvania, into a security checkpoint at 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. The driver went about 20 yards, B.J. Campbell said, before rapidly turning the car around at the concrete security barriers.

“The Secret Service guy was just having a cow,” B.J. Campbell said. “Yelling at her and banging on the car.” The Secret Service officers pulled a black metal gate into her path and she slowed to try to go around it. Then the agent moved the gate in front of her again.

At that point “she just gunned it,” B.J. Campbell said. “She ran the barricade down and the guy; knocked him up onto her hood. He rolled off into the street, and she tore off down Pennsylvania Avenue.” The whole encounter lasted about 20 seconds, he said.

The officer that was injured and flown to the hospital is most likely the result of his car being hit by one of those rising bollard barricades that come up out of the road. The footage I saw showed no damage to either the front or rear of the vehicle, however both doors were missing from the drivers side.

Another thing to ponder. There just happened to be an Alhurra film crew close to where it began and caught most of the action live.

Now certain folks who have an interest know how capital police respond to this type of threat.

During the latest press conference it was mentioned that the woman was African American, and I noticed one of the reporters trying to corner the person doing the press conference into saying she was Somali. WTF?
