:yay: Sure let's just give them something so they can keep doing drugs and not get a life. :sarcasm: Why not help them and throw them in rehab?

I guess I'll go ahead and mention what I was told by a health official this past week. There is a new strain of AIDS out now and health officials are still trying to understand how it all works. They believe that when two people who already have HIV or AIDS have sex, they create a more powerful strain of the disease. People in New York, which is where I heard they are having the most trouble, are dropping dead in about a month. I wonder if heroin users who have AIDS and share a needle with somebody who also has AIDS could end up with this powerful strain of AIDS? This strain is unresponsive to any drugs available. The only article I could find was Febuary of this year. So, was this a sole case or are there more? I couldn't find proof there are more but the concept behind what health officials believe caused it, seems not only logical but something that will happen again in time, if it hasn't already.

I’ve had a feeling there would be a tainted batch of “some type of drug” people abuse for a long time. Why? It just seemed like something long overdue.

I voted "no," they should not. From the article, I got the impression that to despite the warnings, the junkies seem to be using anyway, well, they were warned, job done.

When I took my kids to see the AIDS quilt at Thomas Stone this year the lady there told me the same thing. Very scary.

Make's me sick to think of the world that our children are growing up in. All we can do is talk to them and Pray that they stay on the straight and narrow road.

I don't know it might be a good thing. When a disease kills very quickly it has alot less time to spread. AIDs for the most part gets spread before the people who have it even know they are infected. If it wasnt for the quick mortality of the Ebola virus it would probably be much more of a concern than it is.

Results looking a little lopsided now...

Hard to believe but these are the results of the poll asking the same question in the article I posted.

Do you think addicts should be given the overdose drug?

I guess it depends on who you ask.

Narcan works great for heroin abusers, Properly administered it can indeed save lives. Not too sure how it works for an overdose of fentanyl though. One of the problems with narcan is that it only works for a little while. When it wears off the patient can go back into the overdose. That is why it is reccommended that those receiving it go on to a hospital for observation. Many just get up and are pissed off that their high has been ruined for them and wander off, without further treatment and they luck out, some dont.

Giving them an antidote for an overdose is pretty useless I would think unless they tell a friend they have it and how to adminsiter it. When the induced unconsconciousness of an overdose hits the abuser they wouldnt be able to help themselves and its doubtless the mental condition of anyone who hangs out and trips with this idiot would be in that much better shape..

Patients with heroin overdoses immediately become unable to help themselves. This is a critical difference.
One other problem with Narcan is that most opiates last longer than Narcan does.
Therefore Narcan usually needs to be administered repeatedly in order to get people through an overdose.
Narcan does not cure heroin overdoses. Narcan is an important tool, one useful part of an organized approach to resuscitating overdoses, which helps in the overall management of the overdosed patient. The cure for a heroin overdose is oxygen, breathing support and airway control, and anyone at the scene of an overdose has all of the equipment they need to provide these things to a person through mouth-to-mouth artificial respiration.
For people who are deeply overdosed it is important to give Narcan at some point in the course of their resuscitation. However, the administration of Narcan doesn't change the outcome of the resuscitation at all. The moment when a person's life is saved or not comes before Narcan is administered.

At least 150 fentanyl deaths have been recorded in the Philadelphia area, 130 in Chicago and 130 in Detroit.

400 deaths total so far, and in a nut shell, what they did was mix fentanyl with herion.

The antidote - naloxone, which is sold under the brand name Narcan - can save the life of someone who might not call 911 for fear of prosecution, treatment providers say.

I voted no. I have no respect for anyone that uses illegal drugs. Mixing Fentanyl with herion is not done by the users, but rather by those that sell to the users. In one city back home there have been about 18 cases of overdoses in the past month from this, and so far only one death. IMO drugs are a primary cause of crimes in this day and age and the less druggies there are - well you know what I mean.

When your perishables run out, how will you replenish?

I don't like perishables. I like Chunky soup and licorice.

I'll tell the ride operators that I have life-saving medicine, but first they have to show me how to work the rides.

Where will you go with nothing to do?
I'll go shopping and play Katrina Victim.
