Skateboards ???

Jeff

Stop Staring!!!!!
My 2 boys (10 & 13) have skateboards and they have about had it. I'd like to buy them new skateboards, helmets, pads and gloves for Xmas.

They are kind into I guess and I'd like to find them somekind of skateboard that 'they' would appreciate. In other words I was thinking some brand that they would recognize and be proud of.

Anybody recommend any particular make of skatboards that the kids go for these days? Also any local vendors who would have them?

I guess I'll break bad and get them a ramp as well.

Any help would be appreciated as I am surely lacking in the skateboard knowledge :lmao:

I went to buy my son one the other day and Walmart had ones that sold two boards and I think you actually designed them yourselves. I thought that was pretty cool but I had to buy the smaller one cause mine is only 4

I know Mike's Bikes used to sell boards and accessories. Do not buy them a ramp, all 3 of you should build one together. You should be able to find plans online.

A little off topic - I am looking for a scooter for my son. His old Razor has had it. He doesn't want the four-wheeled scooter, just the classic-type. From what I have found there are four Razors; the Razor A, the Razor A2, the Razor A3, and the Razor Pro. Can anyone tell me the difference in these? It looks like the Pro is a little more heavy-duty, but I'm afraid it may be too big for him? Any input would be appreciated!! Thanks!!

Thanks, They might be worth a look. I know most of the other dedicated 'sports' stores can break the wallet. Spent over 100 Bucks earlier this year for two leather baseball gloves :lmao: I am hoping to get everything for under 200ish. I may do both, buy one & build one. I have the boys every other weekend so would want to get them something a bit more lightweight and protable to take home and clutter up the Ex's yard with. I need to build a better ramp for my shed. Might be able to build something that will siffice for both purposes at once.

Sounds neat. But I dunno if something like that would hold up well against my two boys. They are kinda rough and tumble. When they go out to skateboard I usually keep my eyes open around here for the neosporin and such. I dunno if some 'variable' type board will stand up to them :lmao:

Just did a little bit of net searching. I have not found the name of the store or a URL, or even a listing in the phone book for that matter.

But per Welcome to SMMUG: "The building we are in was the original K*Mart store many years ago.The Well Pet Clinic, Skateboard store and Habitat for Humanities are in this same area."

I think I'll have to cruise through there and see if this "Skateboard Store" is still there or not.

I've built 1/2 pipes (4ft-10ft) 1/4 pipes and launch combos. AND I have the scars to prove it:lmao:.

My 12 yo son is speaking now.......................you can go to Central or Owens Ski and Sport, both in Waldorf. Buy him a Zero, Birdhouse, element or a zooyork board. They will build the skateboard for you right there. Pick out GOOD trucks, bearings and wheels. You will spend about 125.00 per board when done. DONT buy a sucky Walmart board!!!!!!!!! Go there to buy the ramp only. And if you live near Mechanicsville you can bring your sons to my ramp. Sam

:lmao: Looked sturdy but this is new to me. My son is a dare devil and just started getting into this and is 4 like I said. It scares me but don't want to hold him back. Good luck

Well Your 12 YO's opinion is probably exaclty what I need. Tell him thanks a heap. Walmart boards were outta the picture. A kid can't have bragging rights, or get 'cool points' on a Walmart board. :lmao: My boys have had enough of the cheapos over the years and tend to take good enough care of them to warrant going a step farther this time around. They still break them and such but are prety good about keping them outta the weather and putting them away when done. Time to reward such responsibiltiy with a step up.

I am gonna see if this local shop in LPCity is still up and running first though. Be nice to have someone close at hand who knows my kids boards who can do repairs as needed real fast.

Been poking around on the net. Keep seeing boards for around 40-60 bucks.. I was pretty happy. Figured I could get everything for under 200ish. Then I started noticing this was $40-60 for the boards, No wheels, or nothing. :bawl:

Oh well, starting to look like this is gonna run a bit closer to 350 now that I am researching it. That's OK though.. Them's my boys :yahoo:

I don't know if the LP store is still there, but they used to be a pretty good shop. I think they may have moved to Waldorf. Also when my son was into skating, the ski store over across from the old skate station (chancellors run road) (used to be blue mountain or something like that) sold skate boards also. That's where I bought his first Tony Hawk board. If you get a good board, it'll set you back a good bit of cha-ching but at that age hopefully they will appreciate it.

I also purchased trucks and accessories at Mikes Bikes. They didn't have the selection the ski place did, but I think he'll order it for you.

There was also an indoor skate place in the mall in Virginia. They had a huge selection there. I can't remember which mall, but I'm sure someone else will remember for me.

My brothers get their skateboards and skateboarding paraphernalia at Owen's Ski & Sport and Central Board Shop in Waldorf.

Thanks folks, I have to work tonight and plan to swing through FDR Blvd. and go back there and see if this Skate Shop is still there. If not and nothing else pops up I likely be looking at Waldorf then. Was just hoping to find a local, specialized shop that might make adjustments and such cheap if I buy from them. I'll poke around a bit and do some more looking. About 125 per board sounds OK to me. Plus they have outgrown all there current helmets and pads and such so I'll be replacing that as well. I figure a budget of $350 for gearing up two boys sounds doable.
