U-Haul on Great Mills Rd maybe? I know when Mike Hewitt owned/operated his U-Haul place on 235 he was generous with the donations for relief efforts back in the day. Even donated a large truck to one of them to haul stuff to NYC to be loaded in a shipping container (Blankets for Georgia...2014 I think it was).
Theres a few places. They have a bunch of boxes from Lowes and seem to prefer those because they're all the same size and shape, easier to pallet. I got a bunch of used from harbor freight, just dropped them off, along with a whole mess of tape rolls. They could use water, food, warm clothes/blankets. She said it was 30* in ashville last night.

My buddy in Gerton said the same...getting right cold at night and seeing first frosts. He's still getting daily helo loads of generators and fuel..provided by Samaritan's Purse and usually delivered by National Guard Chinooks.

Some FEMA clowns showed up at his neighbor's place a couple days ago. In an SUV. Asked for electric power for their "devices"...they were then connected to to generators provided by Samaritan's Purse, running on privately donated fuel. Fumbled around for a couple hours..then asked if there was anything to eat/drink. Were given some of the donated bottled water and a meal. Left without telling anyone why they'd even showed up in the first place.

Bottom line: the private/civilian response rocks!!

FEMA must be a disorganized JOKE. Thank God for Samaritan's Purse and civilians.

Thank goodness the list of volunteer/civilian organizations like Samaritan's Purse is long. God's Pit Crew...Cajun Navy... Heck. the civilian helicopter group has flown over 2000 missions!!

I think more and more people are disappointed with FEMA. The more I hear about them, the more I understand they can't help people when politics gets in the way.

Darn. Wish I had gotten my A&P licence. Reckon those helo's will be due for some 150 hour phased maintenance pretty soon.

So, I am incredibly disappointed.

My aunt passed, and we have a house full of clothing. Jackets, sweatshirts, jeans, corduroy pants. Nothing fancy, but in very wearable condition. Blankets, towels, pillows.

I was told they could not be donated for fear of lice and bedbugs.

Anyone have info on this? Or a number I can call?

The family really would like to help this way

What about St Andrews Thrift Shop?

I must say, St. Mary's County does rock, comes together, and puts other counties to shame collecting all those hurricane relief supplies. In Calvert? Haven't heard or seen anything at all regarding collecting of supplies. If they are, it is definitely not on your level. You guys have set the bar, extremely high.

Just think what the Solomons Business Association alone could be doing. But nope. Too hoity toity for such things I reckon.

Well, I donated a bunch of gently worn coats, jackets, sweatshirts, and gloves a couple of days ago. I wish I had know they only wanted brand new. I guess they just trashed them. :(

Just saw this in the Southern Maryland News. Asking for volunteers, but maybe they take donations of clothing too.

Strange...I recall seeing a number of donation requests (different organizations than the one you refer to) that included used clothing, especially colder weather clothing.
