SMCPS please STOP the Cherrydale fundraisers! WARNING VENT

Ugh! I dread this time of year every year when my elementary school age son comes home with this fundraiser crap! I normally ignore it but as he gets older (7 now) he becomes more and more aware of the "Big Blast" party that they try to bribe him with when they pass out these packets. It's difficult to explain to him that nobody really wants any of that overpriced stuff they push the kids to sell and really, if we're being honest here, it's for the parents to sell as my 5,6 or 7 year old is not cabable of doing this on his own. If I wanted to sell stuff I would have gotten into that line of work and I really resent that they shove the promise of a party in front of them but only if they sell a certain amount and then when party time rolls around they call the names of those kids who get to go in front of those who don't (at least they did the last two years before I sent a scathing letter). Wake up SMCPS! Find a better way!

I realize the schools need to raise money somehow but I wish they'd find a way to do it without bribing the kids and causing some to be excluded from parties.

Done ranting now. :burning:

You mean you don't want to buy five 4oz packages of chocolate covered peanuts for $9.95 each? Maybe the deluxe wooden paper towel rack in the shape of a cow for $12.95? :lmao:

I have two kids that want to do it. Only one really understands it and the other one doesn't care. But there is not anything really to even choose from in them this year.

What I can't stand are the kids that come to your door - asking you to buy stuff - I have kids who go to school with them. So I feel bad telling them no, but what really ticks me off is didn't they tell the kids no door to door anymore? Why do parents let them do that?

Well lets see, I am sure I will get the sales package when I get home today but some of the other quality offerings from Cherrydale are pewter candle suffer/wick trimmer for $15, 6oz. gel candles for $10 each, wooden memo pad holder for a cool $9, a wooden apple shaped towel rack for $12.

Basically a bunch of high priced worthless crap. I have never been able to determine what the schools cut on this is, or what they use the cash for anyway. I think this year I got a note in the first barage of paper saying I could opt out for $50 if I would like. It is cheaper for me to trash it and not worry about it at all.

I also have the pigskin pizza kit find raiser I need to finish.

I only let them go to family and friends. It's to crazy to let them go door to door anymore. A lot of sicko's around here.

The "Big Blast" party for the big sellers is bull as well. I told my kid he was not a door to door sales person and we were not going to annoy our friends with this bull anymore. On the big party day I went and picked him up and took him to lunch.

mmmmhmmmmm
My daughter brought it home the second day of school. It has been that way for a few years now. They use to wait a couple weeks before sending that stuff home. I usually tell my daughter to throw that stuff away but I told her that she couple sell it this one time.

So..........Does anyone want to buy something? :lmao:

Lets see if I got this right, if you pay them 50.00 they wont guilt trip your kid and you into selling this crap. That sounds a little like extortion.

I told my kid "no". Then I wrote a check directly to the school. School made 100% profit, I didn't have to take orders/make deliveries, and my kids learned at a young age that mom doesn't buy into everything.

First year I tried but soon after I said hell no. I do let him do the ST. Jude fund raiser. He got nearly $300 for them last year. A few weeks later he drug home this bag full of crap. It was his "prizes" Nice life lesson there, "prizes" for being charitable.

This is why I put a stop to this when my girls were in school. ( both out of school years ago) Yes us parents are the ones going door to door with them or sitting this stuff on our deak in the office hoping someone would buy anything. lol
Funny thing was everyone in my office had the same crap lol
We love selling thoses candy bars cuss they sold really fast. I agree they make kids feel like you MUST SELL or make X amount of dollars to get some little prize. Most of what they won you could of gotten at a dollar store.
High prices for getting nothing. I understand its to rasie money for what the school needs or other things but please make it worth it.
About a year ago this little girl comes to my house selling yankee candles. I order 2. Five months later ( thank goodness I got a phone # from her ) am wondering what the hell happen to thoses candles I order lol
I called an she told me they would be coming in another week. I said ok. She comes the next week with this little bag with 2 candles in them. I thank her but as am looking in bag am thinking you got to be kidding me. lol
Smallest candles I ever seen. Lets say from know own I just order my candles either online or just go to store to buy them. lmao
