I told my kid "no". Then I wrote a check directly to the school. School made 100% profit, I didn't have to take orders/make deliveries, and my kids learned at a young age that mom doesn't buy into everything.

And was your child then allowed to attend the Big Blast Party? Because that is ALL my son is talking about. I'd write the damn check too if it would make the whole issue go away.

they are never too young to begin preparing them for the endless parade of disappointments they are going to experience in life by explaining the "Big Blast Party" is not that big, and is going to happen without them.

Call your school directly and make your proposition.

I know nothing
Why do the schools need fundraisers anyhow.... Dosent Maryland dump enough tax dollars into the education system as it is...

Totally agree with you but it's a bit much to have to explain this to my kids for the next 6 years as they make their way through elementary school. Every year it's the same situation, disappointed, hurt kids, frustrated mom and I get to be the "bad" guy in my kids eyes.

I cant believe what Im reading. You guys are letting the schools push you around by bribing your kids with fantasys of some stupid party. I think Pete said it best, took boy to lunch instead. All of you should put your foot down and tell them NO. I Your kids will get over it. I would tell the school that I will not sell the crap or have my kid sell it and I certainly will not give you 50.00. Then explain to the kid and do something like Pete.

Ugh! I dread this time of year every year when my elementary school age son comes home with this fundraiser crap! I normally ignore it but as he gets older (7 now) he becomes more and more aware of the "Big Blast" party that they try to bribe him with when they pass out these packets. It's difficult to explain to him that nobody really wants any of that overpriced stuff they push the kids to sell and really, if we're being honest here, it's for the parents to sell as my 5,6 or 7 year old is not cabable of doing this on his own. If I wanted to sell stuff I would have gotten into that line of work and I really resent that they shove the promise of a party in front of them but only if they sell a certain amount and then when party time rolls around they call the names of those kids who get to go in front of those who don't (at least they did the last two years before I sent a scathing letter). Wake up SMCPS! Find a better way!

I realize the schools need to raise money somehow but I wish they'd find a way to do it without bribing the kids and causing some to be excluded from parties.

Done ranting now. :burning:

I ll donate money for pizza for my kid's homeroom and theres their party :yay:

Did this. In the eyes of a child it doesn't make the cut, but yeah, I guess they'll learn the lesson eventually.

I remember to tear off the little "box tops for education" things and stuff them in an envelope to send to school. My bit is done!

I sat mine down and told him like it is.

The school wants more money.

This crackpot garbage peddling company tells your school that they can get a little money if they get you kids to sell their junk.

The school doesn't get much of the money anyway.

We don't need their junk and it is wrong to make us feel guilty for not buying it.

It is wrong to peddle this worthless junk to your friends.

It is wrong to try and make kids feel bad for not selling enough junk.

It is wrong to be sad because you couldn't go to a party that only invites kids who do all the wrong things I listed above.

I will come get you on Big Blast Party day and take you to McDonalds for apple dappers and a shake if you want.

If you cry over not going to this stupid fake party I will whack you in the melon and give you something to really feel bad about.

My sister tried to get me to do this. Lasted about 2 minutes. I got your little beasts to and from school safe and sound for 15 years, I did my part. And I bought so much junk and a ton of pizzas (didntmindthepizzassomuch). I had to say no lots of times. 50 kids on a bus all selling the same thing, I can only buy from one. And it was usually from a friends kid. Not my bus kids.

I am sick of fundraisers. My kids brought one home last week on the 4th day of school. They haven't brought homework home yet but they sure did bring the same cheesy fundraiser home.

Then I go to a family cookout this weekend and get hit up by 1 niece and 2 nephews selling me their fundraiser.

I only let them go to family and friends. It's to crazy to let them go door to door anymore. A lot of sicko's around here.

Do they still do Joe Corbis Pizza?

That was the only one my parents let me do. And that was because for like $10 you could get 3 make-it-yourself pizza kits, which is a pretty good deal, and they are delicious.

But any of the other ones were no-go, regardless of how badly I wanted that boombox with 8 speakers and a cassette tape player! My parents just said "Its all crap, no" and then I didn't even try to sell to anybody else. When the day came to hand out the awards, little surprise came to us when the top prize went to the daughter of some CEO who somehow managed to sell $5000 worth of tin cans.
