Smeco: Check your bill!!!

......
My elec bill dropped, but I'm wondering why. I'm definitely checking with SMECO because I don't want them coming after me next year telling me I owe a bunch of money becasue they made a mistake.

Ours went from nearly $300 last month to $80 this month, so I know there was an error in reading the meter. If it had stayed high again, I would have called. I am definitely going to keep an eye on it though!! May even start reading the meter myself.

and did you get the letter telling you what an energy pig you were? <like the rest of us?

How can you trust that energy letter compared to those who live near you when they can't even get your bill straight. Has anyone ever gotten a letter or in your email saying you have the lowest use compared to others near you ha ha?

That is if they read the meter at all. While stationed up in Maine, our meter reader was to lazy to drive up our 1/2 mile dirt road, so he just guessed every month for about a year. When CMP hired a new reader, we ended up having a very large credit.. didn't have to pay a bill for like 5 months...

Ours always says, we're way more than our neighbors. It also says our house is about 1000 sq ft smaller than it is.

Was I suprised.....the other day I opened my SMECO bill and was shocked that I was charged 3 times what my average July-August bill was for the past few years. Yeah, I know its been hot and the a/c has been on ovetime, but NOT 3 times more. So I called the billing phone number. A young man asked the normal questions as in a new appliance etc... I said no.
Well, as promised they "re-read" our meter and SHAZAAAAAMMMM "a "mistaken reading" was to blame.

But there's more......seems that a few neighbors had "mistaken readings" too.

Those steel power poles must be expensive.

CHECK YOU BILLS FOLKS, ESPECIALLY IN 20639 VICINITY!!

Thank you. I just got an email about my next bill and it went from $144 to $324 in a month! I will be on the phone tomorrow to SMECO to reread my meter as there is no way in hell my usage increased that much!

Get this!
I contacted SMECO also, they will re-read the meter, but if they determine that they are not at fault, they will charge you an extra $28 for the meter reading.
I am really starting to dislike SMECO...

If they mis-read the meter this time and it is resulting in a higher bill this month doesn't that just mean next month's bill will be extra low... won't the problem resolve itselve without having them come back out to read it...

My bill has increased by 82.15 but we kicked the AC a few times last month.

June-July bill was 28 days. Average daily kwh was 69.89kwh

July-Aug bill was 33 days. Average kwh was 75.15kwh

Mine seems about right after reading my meter and comparing the kwh differences. Meter was 50769 on the 13th when they read it and today it is 51031, which averages 65.5 kwh a day so far.

That assumes they read it correctly the 2nd month.

Yes. But it is still a kick in the pocketbook when you aren't expecting extra $$ to go out because of a possible misread.

Because of the number of people complaining, it kind of sounds like SMECO needed a bit more cash flow and this was a 'legal' way to do it.
