FREE Fall 2009 Tackle and Cheer Registrations

Southern Maryland Youth Football League (SMYFL)

SMYFL is now accepting Tackle Football and Cheer registrations for the Fall 2009 season.


Cost:

Football

$135 for Ankle Biters (Age 5-6), 70lb, and 80lb

$150 for 90lb and 100lb

$155 for Middle School competitive

Cheer

$80

Prices are all inclusive and there are no mandatory fundraisers.

Participants can pickup and drop off registration forms during normal business hours at the following businesses:

Tri-County Sports - Charlotte Hall.

United Rentals - California, MD

In addition, there will be in-person registrations at the following dates and locations:

Dates:

April 18 & 25; May 2
Time: 10AM-2PM

Locations:

Wawa - Mechanicsville, MD

Food Lion - Charlotte Hall, MD

Free Football and Cheer Registrations

Free Tackle Football and Cheerleading Registration

The Southern Maryland Youth Football League (SMYFL) is holding free Tackle Football and Cheerleading Registration for all residents of St. Mary’s County for the next two weekends from 10AM to 2PM at the football field located at the back of 5th District Park behind Lettie Dent Elementary School in Mechanicsville.

This free registration ensures that most can still participate in these tough economic times but is only available to the first 400 Football Registrations and the first 100 Cheerleading registrations.

SMYFL would like to say THANK YOU to the following businesses. It is only through their support that this is possible:

Mechanicsville Optimist Club
Cheeseburger in Paradise
Papa John’s

In exchange for the free registrations we only ask that each registrant purchase $50 in gift cards to support the businesses that are supporting Southern Maryland Youth Football. In addition, for those that register this Saturday, May 16, the $10 fee which is required by St. Mary’s County Recreation and Park as part of the Raising Community Standards Program will be waived.

Any additional donations to the league are appreciated and tax deductible through the Universal Sports and Academics non-profit and will be used completely and exclusively for Youth Football.

Reminder that the current registration drive is taking place in the back of Fifth District Park at the concession area.

There was some confusion today and some parents thought they were registering with us, but actually registered with Pigskins (who were setup out front of Lettie Dent) and had to ask for their forms and payment back once they realized the error.

Another area of confusion is that some parents were told that SMYFL would not get any field permits for the Fall season.

Field permits are delivered in July.

Signed my two kids up on Saturday.

One thing that should be mentioned is that I paid $50 for each kid and received coupons not gift cards. The coupons I got were a free wrestling lesson ($20 value), a free karate lesson ($20 value), and a 2 for 1 pizza coupon from Papa John's. I guess if you want the free wrestling and karate lesson then it's a $50 value but I was expecting to walk out of there with a $50 gift card to Papa Johns or Cheeseburger in Paridise.

I'm not complaining because $50 is a great price for football but it's a little misleading to say it was a "free" registration. They should have just said registration is $50.

Memorial Day Weekend - No Games

Reminder: This weekend is Memorial Day Weekend, there are no flag football games for SMYFL.

However, please note that SMYFL will be taking in-person registrations at the reduced rate at the rear of Fifth District Park (Lettie Dent) near the Field 1 concession area.

Other youth football leagues may or may not be having registrations in the front parking lot of Lettie Dent school, so do not be confused by this.

SMYFL hopes you enjoy your weekend as we remember those who have given it all for our nation.

In-person registrations

Just another quick reminder, representatives of SMYFL will be at the back of Fifth District Park (behind Lettie Dent at Field 1) taking registrations from 10 to 2.

Other organizations may or may not be in the front of Lettie Dent taking registrations, so please do not confuse them with SMYFL.

If you want to take advantage of the reduced rate for tackle and cheer please come this weekend. We only have 400 tackle and 100 cheer slots available at this rate and it is filling up fast.

Unfortunately we were told by the California Wawa that we could no longer hold in-person registrations at their store-front, so we are working on a location for in-person registrations in the Lexington Park area. This is important because these 400 slots are not just for kids in the North. More information to come on this location. We will post it as soon as we get confirmation.

In addition, any organizations or businesses who may want to sponsor or support more children in this way, should contact us.

UPDATE - Hollywood Registration

We have just added an in-person registration at Hilltop Graphics in Hollywood MD for this weekend.

Representatives from SMYFL will on site taking registrations at the reduced rate.

We anticipate that we will probably fill all 400 slots this weekend for tackle.

ANNOUNCEMENT​
Southern Maryland Youth Football League (SMYFL) is pleased to announce that as part of our inaugural tackle football season we will be holding a Pre-Season Exhibition Game with the LaPlata Blue Knights. The game will take place on Saturday August 29th. We will release more details such as times and location as they are worked out.

SMYFL feels that an ongoing relationship with organizations like the Blue Knights will be beneficial to the children of both St. Mary’s and Charles County. We value such a relationship and encourage parents who for whatever reason choose not to register with SMYFL, to seriously consider the Blue Knights.

In-person Tackle Registrations this Saturday

The Southern Maryland Youth Football League (SMYFL) is still registering for free by purchasing $50 of coupons from our supporters. While we expect to meet the free registration limit this weekend we will still honor the free registration for anyone that registers this weekend at any location.

Registrations will be held Saturdays from 10-2 at the following three locations:

Charlotte Hall:

Football Field #1 at Fifth District Park (all the way in the back behind Lettie Dent)

Hollywood:

No, I haven't yet. I wanted to make sure he definitely wanted to play. Tee ball was a nightmare getting him to go every week. Now he says that he's sure. So, if you could kindly just tell me when the registrations are in the future are in the future. I'm well aware that you've been registering every weekend. Thank you.

Weigh-In and Registrations this weekend

SMYFL will be having an Equipment Distribution and Weigh-in this Saturday from 10-3 at Fifth District Park (Lettie Dent).

We are also still taking registrations at this time. You can register online or drop it off at Tri-County Sports in Charlotte Hall.

We will also be doing in-person registrations this Saturday at the Weigh-in.
