Snow on top of cars

Lots of cars with snow still on top out there driving around, flinging chunks of snow everywhere. I get it, some vehicles are tall and thus difficult to clear off easily, but ya’ll should at least try!
Saw one lady driving with only a 6” hole to look through the windshield. Side windows mostly still covered as well.

People are idiots, which is why there are so many wrecks that could have been avoided with even just a minimum of attention.

Don't they get ticketed for that, or no?

I thought it was the law, you have to clean the snow from the top of your car completely. I had some jackwagon in front of me on 249 yesterday with snow piled on the top of it. I slowed down and stayed a fair distance from him, sure enough it started flying off his car.

That's what I thought, too. Obviously cops can't be everywhere, which is why we should be able to make a citizen's arrest.

MSP and SMCSO should be ticketing people for this.
While I agree that idiots that don't clear their vehicle of snow/ice completely should be ticketed; it seems that isn't the case in Maryland. The General Assembly should craft a law making it illegal. As of now (and only what I have been able to find) the only law that might apply deals with the windows being unobstructed (all, front, back and sides). Md. Transportation Code Ann. § 22-404

Now, could an officer that "observes" snow/ice flying off a vehicle, hitting another or creating an unsafe condition cite them? Probably, but I am unsure of a specific code violation. @GregV814 - What say you?

I don't know of a specific violation that MD law provides on this. The COP would have use some sort of unsafe condition like you said. Being on the roadways with snow piled on top of the vehicle should be illegal.

I'll put myself out there and say I don't think it should be illegal. Sometimes it is unavoidable. Snow happens while you're at work with only an ice scraper, you're not getting the top of most cars, let alone SUVs or trucks. Do I think a lot of people should try way harder than they do? Yes. Ticket, no. Too many variables. Not having visibility from rear and front windows, yes, ticket.

I've seen hacks of people using tarps on their cars and steps. Just pull it off along with the snow. Fortunately, I have a garage and also carry a long handled brush and ice scraper.

Well, maybe I should sweep the snow off the roof of my truck....... badda bing... No, The Transportation Code, (formerly article 66 1/2) has been modified since I retired, but there used to be something like unsecured load that may be stretched a tad... or the old negligent driving....
