Snow totals?

Devil's Advocate
6 inches?! That's no where near enough. I'll start sacrificing small animals now, that way I'll be way ahead of the game by the time Saturday rolls around.

I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed. The heavier snow will be to the south and the closest watch areas to SoMD are expecting 1-4 inches and we're suppoed to get less of whatever they get. We'll have to see if more watches are issued as time progresses.

Actually, the closest place to us with a winter storm warning is King George County, and the NWS is predicting 5+ inches.

Can anyone tell my why it's only Thursday and already the roads have been treated for a snow we "might" get on Friday night/Saturday?
It's not road salt but rather a chemical/brine mixture. The sand/salt mixture is what gets put down after there is at least a couple inches on the ground. It does no good before that amount. The brine mixture is put down before the first sign of moisture so that it has time to dry on the road. It doesn't do much good if it's put down and then immediately washed off. YW.

They're probably also trying to avoid paying overtime as much as they can AND do not want to get caught with it undone. It does take some time to treat every single main road. It doesn't hurt to do it early as long as there will be no rain to wash it off before the frozen precip gets here.
