So how do you Democrats feel about this?

I don't see the big deal.
Most states I've been to have a 6% sales tax or higher. So, you're going to be paying 2 cents more in taxes on a t-shirt.
I don't agree with raising ANY taxes and am upset they did so, but it doesn't look like the sales tax increase was that substantial.
Sounds like you guys need to be madder at the legislature than O'Malley.
What are state taxes compared to federal taxes anyway? 1/3?
I know I'll get more red for being a leftwing type liberal Democrat tard and whatever else y'all are gonna say, they're all the same; but quit whining.
Maryland won't pay into the school system because they don't have enough money. That excuse is gone now, the real measurement of Gov. O'Malley is coming.
Give him a chance and see what, if anything, changes. If things change for the better, great, I'll be glad to pay a little more into the system. If things remain the same, then THROW THEIR AZZES OUT OF OFFICE!

Conservatives never see the common good from helping.
Nice takes!

Yea, Bob balanced his last budget by borrowing against future budgets. That's jsut as bad, if not worse, than raising taxes.

??

Ok, I've been all over the Web and I can't find any support for this position. Actually, I can't figure out what the hell happened.

The only thing I know for sure is that more of my money is going to MOM and the state of Maryland in sales and gas taxes.

NOT Politically Correct!!

In My Opinion
They should also make the rich folks pay their fair share instead of giving them places to hide their money.. Alot could be done and no one has balls enough to do it... JMO
ok, so the rich guy makes a million a year, and after he gets done hiding and deducting and pretending etc... he pays 10% tax, or 100,000 dollars.

now, we have the poor guy that makes only 100,000 to start with, and he cant find all the places to hide his money, so he ends up paying 20% or, 20,000 in taxes.

who payed more of their fair share of the tax burden on the country?

I thought so, the rich guy put 5 times the amount towards the countries bills.

so, when you say that they should pay their fair share, should the guy making 100k give it all up? or should the guy making a million only pay 20k

I disagree. That's why conservatives donate more to charity than liberals.

You including church offerings and faith-based initiatives?!? Halliburtin feeding the poor in Iraq? NASCAR having SUV builder and beer ads on cars?
Rush telling y'all that taxes should not go to foreign aid and human services programs? FL GOP prolonging Schaivo while residents wait for basic services?
Compassionate conservatism? Killing immigration reform, even tho W supported it?!?!?!?
Incredible.

The thing is, the less you earn the more whatever percentage is going to hurt.

And force the poor to stop buying Cheetos and nicer cars than their homes.
A sales tax is a user tax. Rich income tax breaks are wrong.
Taxing business keeps the infrastructure and labor that make said busines possible thriving.
Man up. Pay yr taxes. If yr worried about waste, do something beside whine and ##### like losers.
Erlick did borrow from the future to cook books. Be vigilant, or MoM will do the same.

I'm talking about people. Conservative people donate more than liberal people.

I try not to think of flaming liberals as being stupid. I really do. I try to think that they are just normal people who have fallen for a sales pitch.

Then someone like you comes along, and there goes all of my compassion. How can we not think that liberals are ignorant freaks when people like you speak for them?

Thanks for strengthening the stereotype that liberals are idiots who have not bothered to learn anything. Good job.

I am no liberal. I just meet your compassionate definition for one, I suppose.
Good job getting personal. I'll admit you often have good takes, tho...
Why do conservatives label all who disagree with them, 'liberal'? How about addressing points of the post vice lame comedy?

You brought the whole "conservative" thing into this. Why would you do that if you aren't a liberal?

Why would you like income redistribution, higher taxes, and welfare programs if you aren't a liberal? Are you unaware that all of the things you believe are liberal views? If you have liberal beliefs, you are a liberal. If it walks like a duck....

Everything about your posts screams "IDIOT". It is impossible to take you seriously.

There were points in your post?

:yeahthat:

Plan B, you brought nothing to the argument.

And force the poor to stop buying Cheetos and nicer cars than their homes.

Think of all the goods and services that are necessities (basic household items, utilities, repairs for the not as nice car, etc) that are subject to sales tax. And last I checked, it costs the same to register a Mercedes C-Class as a 10-year-old Hyundai in MD.

The further you are down the income ladder, the more every dime counts.

No Use for Donk Twits
Del. Murray Levy (D, La Plata) wrote that letter in the Friday Maryland Independent. I had to stop from throwing the cat against the wall when I read that chit. The message Levy didn't say was that MOM had the opportunity in 2007 and 2008 to NOT spend the money in the surplus but he spent it anyway. So squandering of the surplus lies flat in MOM's lap (along with the rest of the 'crats who run this miserable state)

That letter from Del. Levy prompted me to respond and the letter was actually printed in yesterday's edition. I did my research based on a comment made here to a question I posed in these forums. It was unfortunate for Del. Levy that his letter was printed on the day the Independent's headline read something to the effect that Southern Maryland School Budgets were being cut.

To Gigi and others, just what percentage of income is 'fair share' in regards to taxation? I would also like a definition of the term 'rich'. Please be specific i.e. "I believe people making $100,000 per year should pay 10% in federal taxes" or whatever figures you want. It would help me get a perspective on your taxation policy.

But, wouldnt the Hyundai use less gas and parts and oil, things subject to sales tax?
I suppose I am just wondering if a sales tax is more equitable than some other forms, if the poor truly work at living within there means, and eschewing celphones, cable tv, finer clothes, junk food, yada...
Thanks for being civil, btw.
I consider 100k/yr salary to be rich.
