No ZZ Top or Motley Crue. Nothing to rock out to. We even had cool rock chicks like Heart and Joan Jett - all they have are talentless whiners like Miley Cyrus.

Do you suppose "they" did it on purpose, put out trash music to pop culturize these kids into fetal position losers? Like emotional saltpeter? And that's what's making them all trans?

These kids are melodramatic messes, then they lash out like lunatics to compensate. I suppose all 60 year olds have always looked at all 20 year olds and thought they were mental cases, but my god - today's kids are just a wreck and they wallow in it. My generation was dramatic, but not like this. Maybe because we didn't have the internet to find other messes to validate our comeapart - we at some point had to get our sh*t together and act like we had some sense because there wasn't a lot of tolerance for it.

I don't know what it is. I do think that some of the issue with music has been, most stations carry a specific genre - there's fewer and fewer "top 40" type radio stations. Music videos are mostly non-existent. I don't know what has happened to your basic garage band, a band that started out playing locally and gaining recognition. It's more and more likely they will start on the Internet or somehow get "managed" and have their songs written for them. If you grow up hearing only one kind of music - chances are, that's all you'll know about.

How often do you see performers that can actually play music? Or write their own songs?

I will say this - it just amazes me that the old songs and old performers - my kids KNOW them, and they didn't know them because of ME. Last night I was driving my son, and he was singing along with Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London" - a song I never really cared for, so he learned it elsewhere. One time he was singing along with "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield.


It's OFTEN an old song will come on - and I'm talking 70's era - and my middle daughter will start singing along. And I'll ask "you know this song?" and she will say "some of it". She was singing along with "Smells Like Teen Spirit". My niece would do the same and when I'd ask - she'd say "well it's good music".

I was born under EISENHOWER. Music that much older than me would be stuff like Brother Can You Spare a Dime? and Pennies From Heaven. Not a chance.

No not intolerant, I think that you just need to get out more, There are plenty of what I would call kids or young adults that appear to be on the right track. I see them all the time, working at the restaurants, grocers, cutting grass, cleaning houses or assorted other jobs, quite a few work at Pax or for one of the contractors. Of course the media only shows the worthless ones in either print or videos. I employed plenty of young workers in my career, I'm not anywhere close to giving up on todays youth, I've seen plenty of GOOD ones .

Thinking those in the music business, the grifters, aka promoters, have taken the road of the least resistance. Rather than deal with a band with multiple members and a ton of instruments, they have gone with a single individual and pipe in the music, to cut down on costs and to increase their skimming profits. Taylor Swift may play the guitar on stage, but there is no band, or other musicians on stage. Just as with most every other "artist" that is nothing but a taught lemming, given lyrics developed by someone else to push a message and a choreographed stage performance. Ever see a rappper playing an instrument? Nope. Nary an instrument to be seen. Today's concerts are nothing but a flashing light show and mediocre music. Ooooh Ahhhhh go the masses.

I know that and thanks for the reminder. I've been surfing Reddit for entertainment lately and those tweaks have invaded my brain. But like everything else, they don't necessarily represent all young people - they represent young people who hang out in Reddit.

Well, I hope the hell not, because the same topic came up a few weekends back with some friends. I'm not ready to embrace being old and intolerant.

I might be able to pick "MAYBE" 5 artists that has produced good music since the early 90's but they are few and far between. Often, a few songs, and they dissapear into the fog never to be heard of again. The fact is, many of the artist of our younger years had talent. They also didn't have a social media outlet to express every thought when it happens.

Vince Everett Ellison, author, brought up an interesting point. He has said that the rap music is all about violence and hypersexualization of our youth. He has felt that this has been a contributing cause of the deterioration of our youth today coupled with the over reaching government.
