You don't even need to cut them really. I fold them over. I got the idea from my sister years ago. You'd be surprised how it really keeps the original carpet, etc. in new shape.

Also cloth place mats work very well over the hump in front of the seat, unless you have a console. I use the bath mats and place mats for my truck.

I know someone who bought a truck from her. She had a seat cover over the original velour for about 15 years. The seat was beautifully preserved for said buyer.
