Why should the gov't fund your old age. The youth of today should be doing that themselves. I know I am. The system wouldn't fail if their wasn't so many free loaders.

freeloaders

i dont think it has to do with so much of freeloading but there are freeloaders no doubt. i think it mainly has to do with the government spending the social security money unwisely on other programs not related to this one and then the whole baby boom thing. more peope were born after WWII than are being born today and the people that are born today wont be able to pay all of the people that were born back then lol. :burning:

The Federal Government has grown Federal programs for decades to accept more and more people. It will take increasing taxes in all sectors to massage SS through the boomer bubble. The difference in SS and many other taxes is that it provides direct assistance later in life that is tangible. People have less problem paying taxes on something they know they will get back (or a portion) than paying taxes to fund a highway in WV that goes nowhere, a study of the mating habits of a frog, an endowment of the arts that pays for someone to take pictures of someone with something hanging out of their butt. It will not be easy and it probably will not be pleasant but it will live on.........:burning:

Social security will never die. End of Story. It has become a staple, relied upon, a given. Too many people are on it, will be on it. There is no way it will or can go away. They will raise the tax, prop it up, tweek and peak it. There would be no tollerance for starving old people on the street.
Pete, do you say this because you have already paid into SS for you entire military career, and by right deserve SS withdraws when you are of age that may not be there in 20 years? From the day I started working, I've always thought SS was nothing but another welfare program paid for by the working man. An investment that will never give me a return.

The ever increasing roll call of people becoming "wards of the State". The greater degree of encroachment of the government into the personal lives of people. The distribution of wealth through progressive taxes. Runaway judiciary, it is happening.

The constitution is a living document. Look at the ways it has been perverted for the "common good" already. I was just reading a case today that points that out.

Say your girlfriend tells you she is pregnant. You marry her and the baby is born. A year later you get divorced and are subject to child support. In an argument she blurts out that the baby isn't yours anyway she was screwing around with your pal and it's his. You go to court and try to stop the child support because it's not your kid, it's Bubbas. Too bad BuddyLee, you still pay. The court's only support is that it is in the "common good". Justice, fair, no a violation of the constitution not exactly because you got due process, but a LIBERAL interpretation that serves the purpose of the state.

true

true and good point i mean i dont doubt that there are some faults in our nation and in the constitution as well. actually i think the constitution is a bit outdated and we need to update it lol. but then again every nation has its faults and if we look at ours compared to others we have it much greater. if anyone wants to complain go live in another country. lol :burning:

Very true, ours is a great country. If more people don't step BACK up to the plate it will continue to disintegrate. More people are riding the bench each day. How long can we hold on to what we have if less people come to the game to play and instead mooch off those that do. If everyone paid there fair share, and contributed in whatever way they could and got off the dole can you imagine how wealthy a nation we would be?

And with that I must bid you good night.

3 shifts in the Constitution

1863-1872
1932-1941
1948-1968

In those three periods, the constitution was morphed away from its original mold & intent.

Add to that the dominant idea that is a product of the 60's that the consitution breathes...thus the founder's intent--is irrelevant.

The result: shifting lines of morality, ridiculous obligations, bulging debt, loss of state's rights, judicial activism, infringements on the bill of rights....and an entire generation has lost the idea of what made us great & free.

There will be a remnant who study, teach, and cling to the foundations of US govt...but that number will seem less & less "in touch" with the contemporary masses.

what?

ive never heard anything about this! what happened during this time to make it happen if in fact it did happen? do you have any proof?

i still think the united states is too reluctant to go against the constitution. sure there are many loopholes however that many take advantage of but we will not solely go against it for it is the model we live by.:burning:

Constitution change part 1

As the Civil war started to turn against the south, the Radical Republicans started to unify and pressure Lincoln for some permanent changes in the Fed-state relationship. As you may know, Lincoln got away with suspending habeas Corpus, detention of US citizens without charges or trials...He ordered Newspapers closed (in Upper Marlboro) and was persuaded to NOT arrest Chief Justice Taney. So naturally the embittered cabinet members and senators began making demands ove how to readmit the states...forcing them to encorporate laws that disenfranchized former confederates and insisting on Federal standards for citizenship/voting rights etc.
The destitute south was soon dominated by carpetbaggers and the federal govt found ways to play with regulation of trade, transportation, education bureaus and even experiemented with direct income taxes....all as a product of the war.

End part 1
