Yah, the bridge is no picnic anymore, especially when someone slows way down (as folks pointed out) and the traffic backs up on to 235. I lived in Calvert from 88-02, and went from guaranteed 30 minute commutes up to 45 minute to 2 hour commutes. Yuck!
That's why I'm back in St. Mary's these days, and loving my 20 minute base commute.
I was in Calvert during the bridge closure in 88, and I can echo the unhappy comments made about that. Does anyone remember the Maryland ad campaign "Capture a Maryland Memory"? On one of the ferry boats during the bridge closure I saw a bumper stick that said, "The Thomas Johnson bridge - Another Maryland Memory" !! ROTFL - wish I'd gotten one of those.
On the bright side, the bridge closure did get me $400. Dig up the March 2000 Reader's Digest and check out the first anecdote in Humor In Uniform - there I am!
C ya!
