i just got word they are closing it.

:(

Makes sense - with all this rain and flooding, if the bridge floods over, people can get seriously stuck or drown.

Seriously don't the winds have to be like 50-60 mph before they closes the bridge?

I couldn't imagine driving across that bridge right now. My truck was being blown all over the road, I'd faint and cause a serious accident if I had to try it across that bridge. :faint: :sissy:

In Maryland, state transportation officials warned that the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and other spans would be closed if winds reached 50 mph. Although forecasters said it was far from certain that winds would become that strong, given the weakening of Ernesto further to the south, Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R) said motorists heading to the Eastern Shore for the holiday weekend should set out as early in the day as possible just to be safe.

"If you need to cross the Bay Bridge, do it now," Ehrlich said in a statement. "When winds hit 50 mph, the bridges close. It is a public-safety issue and not up for debate. "
