Some new light on the father-son shooting of a black man

I couldn't count the times I went into houses under construction just to see the layout, quality of materials, workmanship, etc. etc. I've been there when owners showed up and there was never a problem. I never worried about any of the houses I ever built as long as I knew all my tools were in the truck. I just don't get this extension of criminality of an individual walking through an unfinished house and leaving without anything. If he was backed up there with his truck and loading up 2x's and heat pumps, that's a totally different story but he wasn't.

The one thing all this DOES reveal is something I've often said - you're not hearing the whole story.

I don't think it changes what I think of the men in custody, because a man is dead, and they really didn't have any business trying to collar him.

It does however change what is being spread in the news - that these two guys shot and killed a guy for no reason other than he was black. At the very best, they might argue self-defense, but multiple shots and the very clear evidence that Ahmaud was obviously trying to GET AWAY from them rather than attack them probably blows that idea to hell. Second degree murder which can still get you life without parole.

Me too. On the other hand, since the days when people go into construction sites to steal things like bails of copper wire - I tend to avoid doing things like that. I did actually used to do stuff like that - grab pieces of wire a foot or so long for crafting. I learned around that time of course, people found out they could make money robbing sites.

Not in Georgia. Second degree murder results in a minimum 10 year to a maximum 30 year sentence. Additionally, second degree murder seems only to be associated with a death resulting from child cruelty.
O.C.G.A. § 16-5-1(d) said:
A person commits the offense of murder in the second degree when, in the commission of cruelty to children in the second degree, he or she causes the death of another human being irrespective of malice.

Dunno - I just know second degree is intentional homicide that is not premeditated.

I'm guessing besides the felony murder, a smart SA will include lesser charges as well. Gives the jury something to fall back on in the event they can't come to agreement on the greatest charge.
If they held the trial there, maybe, but I'm thinking the new prosecutor is going to get the trial moved to her turf.
They aren't going to get a generous jury.

I agree. Being a retired commercial and home builder living in a community with new houses going up everywhere I almost always enter and open area and walk around to see whats going on. Had a video not been found... these guys would have gotten away with 2nd degree murder at least. My question... why did it take so long for the video to surface. I think I know the answer.
