I really had to shake my head this morning, and ask, WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY THINKING?? Our son, like most people's kids, is really having issues with Virtual schooling, and the lack of connections to his teachers and the other kids. He's doing great in classes with engaging teachers, the ones that really are as entertaining as they are educating.. but most of the teachers just don't have that personality.

SO, for about half of his classes he is engaged, he's attentive, and actually enjoys them, and is doing well in those classes. Today he told us.. there will be no virtual "google meet" classes on Monday, Wednesday or Friday, they are left on their own to do already assigned classwork. St Mary's County's answer to all our issues, lack of engagement, lack of connection is to reduce engagement and connections by 60%.

Who the hell thinks this is a good idea??

It's interesting to watch school boards make teachers more and more irrelevant while the teacher's unions are power grabbing and holding kids hostage for their Socialist agenda. My guess is this will spill over onto colleges as students realize they don't have to spend enormous amounts of money and time for a degree, they can just do it online.

That works once you're a semi-adult with your own life and friends, but kids need the socialization of school. They can't drive or hit the bars, so school is where their friends are and largely where they interact with humans that didn't give birth to them.

So on one hand I think the less time kids spend with nutter teachers the better, but they're also missing out on a fundamental part of childhood development. It will be interesting to see the future impact of this.

Well, I think one near future impact is how we going to deal with a 200% or higher increase in High School dropouts. If 30% of the kids haven't even showed up in Middle School, what do we think that number would be for Juniors and Seniors in High School?? I it were my Senior year, I think I would have given up months ago and found a job somewhere.

We're looking to the future with kids "dropping out" in Middle School, and the drop out rates being exponentially higher than any year previous. I would HOPE the school boards recognize this, but I don't actually see them doing anything different to suggest they recognize it as a problem.

I think our mistake is not recognizing that this is all by design. The Left has been trying to dumb us down for decades - look at pre-covid education and the wacky stuff these dipshits come up with. An educated populace is an engaged populace, and our overlords do not want that. Why do you think they legalized drugs and even give addicts safe spaces to shoot up and zone out?

The school board absolutely recognizes that kids will be dropping out of school - that's the goal and the plan all along. It has to be because there's no other reasonable explanation.

You can dismiss this as tinfoil hattery if you want but it's all right there clear as day. :sshrug:

Most kids born after 2000 interact very little beyond a touch screen anyway.

It's interesting...
What's interesting is the hypocrisy of the Educratic Aristocrocy.
I know people who say their children are doing better in virtual school because they are not distracted (primarily they are introverts).
On the flip side, those that are more extroverted are having problems.
Which just proves the point educators have always made, there are multiple learning styles.
The hypocrisy is that on one hand they preach different learning styles then force every student to learn the same way, to rigidly conform.
I think younger children, elementary school age, have required a lot of help from a parent or guardian to stay on task,
Those the were entering 9th grade seem to have more of a problem. They are coming from a much more structured program in elementary school and now they have to work largely independently and with a computer system that can frustrate them when trying to upload homework

If I may ...
If I may ...

If teachers think they are so important, there should be a push for teachers to be re-certified, tested, at their own expense, every year before each new school year.

If I may.....the virtual students only had google meets for pds 1, 2, 7, & 8 (high school) on Mondays and Wednesdays. Tuesdays and Thursdays were periods 3, 4, 5. SMCPS just pushed those meets to Tuesdays and Thursdays. Now they have meets all pds on Tues & Thurs. Any student can request to have a meet with their teacher on Friday or attend office hours if they need help.

There is an event this Thursday at the Republican Headquarters in PF - see the post I copied below from Mark Fisher's FB page: It's a continuation from LAST Thursday's meeting and will have 2 County Commissioners there to hear what the Calvert Parents and concerned citizens have to say about re-opening the schools.

Please join the Reopen Schools event, 7PM this Thursday at Republican Headquarters in PF. Two County Commissioners will be attending.

There is also a Facebook page started by a parent and who has developed quite a following if anyone is interested in joining to stay informed AND TO BAND TOGETHER. https://www.facebook.com/groups/339682754016530

If you're a Calvert County citizen with or without kids in school and want to get involved - please do! The School Board members are not listening to the taxpaying PARENTS in this county about what they want and need for their children. They are NOT acting in the best interests of the children in this county.

Also, the County Commissioners will not grant this group of parents the opportunity to speak before their monthly meetings because they are not a "formal" group. The County Commissioners - who are hired by the parents of this county are refusing to listen to them? Yeah, that's got to change. (they will let you speak for the normal 3 minutes that they grant anyone. As you all know - these meetings are now all virtual and the steps to attend are even more involved than they used to be)

If you care at all about what is going on in this country - you NEED TO START AT THE LOCAL LEVEL. If you think you can't make a difference - then you won't. You need to get involved in the local issues in your own county. This is a good way to start. We need to open our schools.

I’ll get the Missus to join up. She is nice and shy, but this BS drove her to breaking point. She will Unleash The Kracken!

Stop the BS and open the schools. No masks, no proper distance just open the schools and get on with the kids education.
If the teachers do not want to work hire substitutes and pay them with the money you stop paying the teachers who do not come to work.

Today's the first day HS students go back (at least at PHS). My son is in the "B" group so he goes back next Monday. I really hope this works out for the kids.
