OK. This one is about me
I sincerely hope everyone reems me for this one. Because now I am "that guy" at the gym.
Anyone would tell you that I am the SAFEST(always use collars, spotters, etc.) person in the gym.........
So the past few weeks have been good to me in the gym. I have broken some personal records and my training has been going well for my next competition in February.
Needless to say I have been walking around feeling very confident about everything I have been doing. Well, maybe a little overconfident.
Today was a Max Effort Upper Body training day for me. What this means is I have one exercise/movement that I go all out on based on how I feel that day. The movement I selected was a favorite of mine. Reverse Band Bench Press. Those who don't know what this is, oh well. I'm not explaining it.
I warmed up like usual, worked up, and proceded to do a double with 405. Easy. I was now ready to start doing singles with some heavy weight. I loaded the bar with 455. This is almost 150lbs lower than my best effort.
I unracked 455. Lowered it to my chest. Proceeded to press it up. Got within 2 inches of lockout and stalled.
I dug as deep as I could but could not lock it out. The bar then started to descend and pin me.
I started to laugh. WTF?
Luckily, a guy I work with noticed me stapled to the bench. He ran over and helped me out.
As you can guess I didn't have a spotter.
This is something I normally never go without. It was 455 for Christ's sake!
So I am nominating myself as SOYG #45734652052. I was "that guy" who thinks he doesn't need a spotter. Feel free to hit me hard for this numbnut move.
