RacingForTheWin.com - SPECIAL COMMENT: Year of the ladies

Here it comes. Like it or not, this season is going to be the year of the ladies. In case you haven't heard, perhaps you've been hiding in a cave somewhere, Danica Patrick has won in the IndyCar Series. Marty Reid made an awesome call as Danica came to the checkerd flag. "Move over boys, the lady is coming through. Danica Patrick wins at Twin Ring Motegi."

My take: Danica's win was no fluke. The women of racing are as alive as ever. It's not that uncommon to find women winning big on the dragstrips across America. Well, folks, get ready to hear a lot more about them, like it or not.

Nacho, IndyCar weighs the cars with the driver inside now, just like NASCAR.

Amazing what happens when Chip Gannassi :bawl: like a :baby:. And how many wins does Dan Wheldon have this year? I would love to see Danica rub that in his face after those stunts he pulled at Milwaukee and Texas last year.

Ashley Force is way hotter than Danica.

Like I said in the article, though. I'll be interested in what Chrissy (Wallace) and Alli (Owens) can do. There's NO DOUBT that looks aren't hurting Danica as far as marketability. Alli's kind of cute, as is Chrissy.

The thing is, though, that Chrissy has Tony Stewart on her side. Tony may be a pompous ass, but he's definently a very good ally to have. I look for her to be racing for Gibbs, RCR or KHI in the future.

I wish Alli had the backing Chrissy has. I'd absolutely hate to see her fade - but if she doesn't do something soon, in ARCA, than fading to darkness is inevitable for her. :ohwell:

Wow, this post coming from a guy that said this a while back...
That was a remark about the size of the cars.

Read on there grasshopper. I was arguing that Sprint Cup racecars are MUCH HARDER to drive.

I think Danica will be in Trucks within two years, and it's going to be a different story. Open wheel cars and stock cars are two different things.

Oh, btw smartazz, I've driven my SUV to Dover and back WITHOUT power steering. IRL has this luxury called power steering.

So, yes, I could drive an indycar. I'm not taking anything away from Danica, though.

Look how good Dario Franchitti's doing in NASCAR. :sarcasm:

NASCAR and IRL are two different fields of play. Can Chrissy handle it? Yes, absolutely. Can Danica? Doubt it, though time will tell.

Milka Duno, on the other hand, is so slow on the track that she's dangerous.

I think it is great she won but I disagree based on the other sports coverage of this..

1. The Japan 300 didn't even have a full field.

2. Helio who came in second is the points leader so he had everything to lose by pushing it to try and win and everything to gain by laying back and taking 2nd place.

2. The CHAMP car merger will bring a bunch of good drivers which will make competition even tougher.

I believe you are wrong again.

1. Danika is a rockstar in IRL.

2. If she goes to the single A farm system of NASCAR she will be a nobody and that will not make her happy.

3. Trucks are not sexy.

4. She is a mediocre Indycar driver in great equipment. Hornish, Montoya, Franchitti, Mears and a half dozen others were great drivers in IRL and CART who jumped to NASCAR and have sucked ass. I don't think Patrick shares your delusions that she is going to go over to the redneck side, crawl in and even be remotely competitive.

The Japan 300 had just as many cars as the field did last year.

Helio had to let her by, he couldn't make it on fuel. Fuel strategy is part of racing.

I don't think the Champ Car field will be that strong on the ovals. The ChampCar drivers sucked at Miami, and I imagine they'll suck at Kansas. As far as that's also concerned, Danica has historically run better on road-courses (not street courses like St. Pete, but tracks like Sonoma and Belle Isle).

I don't think Danica will stay in IndyCar. Her sponsors are going to want more, and there's only one place you can get that. NASCAR. And, some of the NASCAR drivers don't want a woman in the field. Remember Mike Wallace wrecking out Shana (sp?) Robinson a few years ago?

Now, I don't think these drivers are gonna mess with Chrissy. She's got the bull on her side. But, Danica's going to have to prove herself over again.

Based off what I'm hearing, I'd say we should expect Danica to make the move.

What? What the heck does your reply have to do with the comment you made back then.
You sir are a moron!

I agree. I DON'T think Danica can compete in NASCAR, even in good equipment.

But, the sponsors are a large part of this sport. The sponsors were a large part of Franchitti and Hornish coming over.

Hornish will be successful. Give him time. He's still young enough to have solid success in NASCAR. I can't say the same for Dario Franchitti. Hornish, like Montoya did early, is showing improvement. I think Sam and Juan Pablo are the only ones who will have success.
