Calvert's finest are out there running radar and handing out a lot of citations. Slow down, leadfooters!
In fact, one of them just announced he had to go back to the station to get a new ticket book.
I will not say where they are :neener:

:yay:....

you get there at the same time (5 or so mins).... if you are going 55-65

there are days on 235 where you are pushed to the shoulder almost if you are not doing 70... :cds:

Its Friday, not a lot of traffic this morning. I make the turn at the WaWa to head north on 5. I'm in the left lane, speedometer says 70 mph. I had a toyota so close to my bumper, I couldnt see the headlights. I stay in the left lane because I have to make the left onto Rt. 6, if I stay in the right lane and try to get over to the left lane at the turn, nobody lets you over. For Gods sake people, the speed limit is 55, I'm doing 70, its not the damn beltway. Slow down, leave a little earlier so you dont have to put myself and other people in danger just because you cant get your a$$ out of the house on time.

Most people who drive like that will be on your bumper no matter what the speed limit (or how fast you're going). I've noticed a lot of people drive like that these days. It seems there is no such thing as leaving a safe distance any more.

This is the most recent wave of the Smooth Operator Program, which has as it's supposed reason for being to reduce aggressive driving. But we spend far more time on speeding than other, more dangerous behaviors. Why? Because it's easy to do, and easy to prosecute. And makes great numbers. And you need numbers to justify programs. I thing getting drunks and other really dangerous drivers off the road is a good cause. But speeding is the cause of less than %4 of accidents, according to the NHTSA, and focusing on speeding so much gives a poor return on our investment, I feel.

I do not condone dangerous driving of any kind, but think this sort of thing is a feel-good thing that doesn't make us significantly safer.

and if fills the County/State coffers.

Well, to be fair, these things don't make money. The expense is covered by the grants, but nobody on the state/local level makes money, police on a per hour basis cost too much to profit. It's about a public showing of force in support of the goals, even if the actual enforcement doesn't focus on the real behaviors of aggressive driving.

Last time I checked, speeding was still illegal. And in most reported (news reports ) one of the causing factors of accidents is speed. Speeding is reported to cause 4% of accidents?

Driver error is probably the MAIN reason for wrecks.

Yep, %5 is the actual number, so why do we spend a majority of traffic enforcement on that one thing? It's easy to make large numbers of citations fast, verifiable by radar/laser, no "he said, she said" to it, and citizens see a visible LEO presence. And officers come in contact with more motorists, since it's so easy, and with those numbers, a greater chance of encountering real dirtbags.

Folks need to do the speed limit on Hermanville Rd. They like to sit at the bottom of the hill near Park Hall Elem.
