Ken, can anyone invest in this TSP G- Fund you mentioned or do you have to be a federal employee?

Also, I can see problems with this too. There are going to be those that want a guaranteed benefit when they retire. Some will understand that the risky investments won't offer that but when you start talking about safe investments (kinda contradicts itself there) they are going to think their retirement is safe. Sorta like the FDIC with certain bank accounts.

That's why the President is hyping this, calling it a crisis. We, as a people, need to build momentum for motivation for our congress to start to make some good decisions about this.

The 'yeah buts' are a fact of any debate. They must be forced to face the reality; SS is doomed and every day we wait it will get exponentially worse and therefore harder to make good changes.

Any change that does not involve ownership of your own savings will simply be a step in putting it off on the future.

The 'yeah buts' will also be screaming bloody murder 30 years from now when they get their safe and secure T bill retirement. It will better than it would have been under SS but it will not be near what a 30 year market return will yield.

To my knowledge only Federal employees or military members can participate in the TSP of which the G-fund is one of several choices for investment.
