St. Charles Towne Center Mall Safety comments please

Well, the rule USE to be "stay out of the mall after dark." I'm not worried so much about my security, but when you have two young children in tote, you worry, mainly because you are not as aware of your surroundings as you are when you are alone. Now, they have armed car jackings in broad daylight, weekly, banks getting robbed, assaults and robberies again broad daylight. Just remember you safety tips and be aware of your surroundings at all times. Do not make yourself a target, have your keys in hand before stepping out of the mall so that you are not fumbling thru your pockets or purse. Park in well lite areas not all the way in the dark regions of the parking lot where you are not as visible to passing people if you can, and it better be pretty important to go into that mall at night.

Waldorf is defiantly a changing area, no doubt, I posted in this thread almost a year ago and even since then, I’ve seen massive, not gradual, massive changes in the area.

People are flocking to Charles County, St. Charles area, for the shopping, considerable cheaper housing than P.G. County and property tax that is a considerable amount less every year.

Confused

I'm confused... Why is that whenever there are acts of violence... a man was shot, kidnapped, had the snot beat of of him and presumablily left for dead ~20 miles from where the crime started, and people want to explain the crime away as "random acts" and "he was ex-employee".

It still happened!! If it were you that were shot would you still be saying it was "it was random, oh well let me hobble back to the mall for an Orange Julius, it won't happen to me (again)"?:burning:

The writing on the wall was very clear ten-years ago where Waldorf was headed. That's the main reason we sold and moved further South.

I don't think the mass intimidation thing is an answer either. I don't want to say how old I am, but I am old enough to go to jail for my actions (which is also part of the problem... all those creating the problem aren't old enough to go to jail). I gaurantee that if it came to having to go to court for some type of vigilanty type action that lead to assualt charges (which can easly occur w/o injury according to law) I would stand a very good chance of being the one going to jail or getting a hugh fine.... I can hear the judge now... "how could you do this... After all, you are the older one who should have better judgement. You need to be setting a better example". I would be the criminal, and the punk would be the victim. Then of course I can look forward to be grilled by the Johnny Cockrans out there for civil damages. No thanks... like my job, my house, my life style a bit more than trying to prove a point or solve a problem that mall and/or the County Sherriffs Office don't want to recognize.

Like I've done for the past several years.... If I have to go to the mall, and that happens about once a year, I take leave and go during the work day when the only people there are the retired, or smart enough to do that same thing I have....

Good luck to all you Waldorf-ites that are going to stick out the invasion of the punks, thugs, and other criminals... I don't see thngs getting any better, only worse.

I just sold my house in Waldorf, moving in the sticks and couldn't be happier about it.

Thats funny. I thought the same thing about Annapolis mall. Beyond the fact that traffic and parking suck majorly and it takes an additional 1/2 hour to 45 minutes to get to, all the stores are too ritzy to bother going into.

:yeahthat:

Both malls are toilet bowls.

This is why we are in desperate need of a fresh new mall in Lexington Park

Or at least up on 235 where all the strip malls are. We have enough CVS's and Food Lions and Wawa's and Sheetz's. How about a big humongo L.P. City Mall.

It will never happen. This is one that you can safely use NEVER to describe the possibility.

Arundel Mills

I haul my butt up to Arundel Mills if I need to go to a mall. I can find about anything up there, it is never too crowded, and I can then get dinner and a movie. The Muvico theatre is great for seeing a flick. Our "malls" down here were a joke when they opened and are a joke now. From what I see in St. Mary's, those backwards commisioners are complaining that the cops aren't fighting crime, the sheriff wants more officers. The CC wont give it to them because crime is on the rise. Will someone tell these rocket scientists that 6 cops on patrol on a shift for a county of almost 100,00 needs more cops. If we get the cops to come in and work with these places, I am sure we will get ahead of the thugs. But, as long as you and I vote these morons in, Crime will be around, and the malls will be trashy. If you want change, spend your money outside of your county. Losing money always gets a politicians attention.

I had to track down this thread and ask this question. Does anyone remember how nice Landover and Iverson Mall USE to be? Say, back in the 70's and 80's?

Same thing is happening to the St. Charles Towne Center Mall.

I was driving to Waldorf, going down 229, and noticed the 128-acre area that has been up for sale for years, just sold. There is now a sign "new luxury homes to be built." They have already started tearing down the trees and a home that sat on the property. Rumor has it, that they plan to put more than 200+++ homes on this land. So I go to the light and make a right onto 228 and continue my trip to Waldorf, when I see a sign, "for sale, 10 areas zoned commercial." Just a bit further down, the Greenwell Turf Farm is for sale, 50 acres (or maybe 150 acres, not sure), up for sale. It just seems that the beautiful country I grew up around is gone, more houses, more shopping centers, more, more, more. Gone, all gone.

Then I get further down, and some dumb shi! Decided to drive a dump truck thru the intersection of 228 and Western Parkway with the back "dump" part up. It tore all the lights, power lines and phone lines down in the morning and traffic was completely backed up. Guess he was in a hurry to meet deadlines, etc. etc. and didn’t take the time to do his job properly.

Anyway, this area has changed so much here and I thought of Iverson Mall and Landover Mall and how that area changed so drastically, so fast, and today, I had to drive into the old section of St. Charles to the cable company office, and the lake I use to take my lab to swim at is filled with floating trash and debris and it now has rules listed that include no dogs allowed.

It doesn't matter now, my house here is sold and I am moving back to the country, away from the constant building, but it just isn't the same. I do not like all this building here one bit. and the change that it represents.

Landover is gone, torn down, but Iverson is still there. It took about 15 years for that area to be destoyed after the mall came in. If I remember correctly, the mall was built in 69-70?? and by 85, it was classified as the "forbidden zone" by my father. I know by the late 80's, if you want to buy drugs, get raped, get murdered, get carjacked, get robbed, go to Landover or Iverson mall.

So sad. It will not be long before St. Charles Towne Center becomes the same way.

I frequently went to Landover mall in the mid to late 70's; I'm not sure when it was built. I left PG county in 82.

I know how you feel, I think it is time to get out of Charles Co. I have lived here all my life and it makes me sick when I see what has happened to our area.

Yep, it is sad and from what I understand, the Sheriff's Office will not be getting the amount of officers the Sheriff feels he needs to handle the growing area. The decision makers had no problem saying, sure build 200 homes here, 300 there, 1200 over here, but who is going to police them all? Give it time, it will be completly destroyed and that breaks my heart.

My husband's truck was stolen from the St. Charles Mall parking lot on a Friday afternoon while he was on his lunchbreak. He was only in the mall for about 30 minutes came out and it was gone. It was later found dumped on Suitland Parkway stripped, about 4 hours later. Obviously this was a professional scouting out cars. That mall is not safe anymore!:boo:

:lmao: Well, that incident could very well be the #1 stupidest thing I've ever heard anyone do. So let me guess why they will not fire him? Nevermind, I'll keep it to myself. :bubble:
