You are right Jazz they got 7feet of snow they are having some of it moved to the being dumped in the river because there is so much. Here in Rochester we got 1ft and its starting to melt with the warm weather we had last weekend.

Total waste of time. The roads are bone dry. Bad decision. How many kids will be left outside in the cold because parents could not get home. If it was snowing I would say yes bring them home but, no snow and what we did have is gone. Oh well, hopefully no child will be left alone outside and everyone is safe and warm...
Well it goes a little something like this. A few years ago the school system waited until it was snowing and buses ended up in ditches and some children did not get home until 6:30 or later ! I'm not saying todays decision was good one, but they don't want that type of situtation on there hands again.

Exactly... today's weather could have taken a different course. There is no way to truly predict what a clipper will do. They made the best decision considering the circumstances.

I was wondering WHERE they moved it to when they cleared the roads. And just how do they know WHERE the road is?

Here in Upstate NY they start plowing right when the snow starts to fall here and they have so many plow/salt trucks they have no problems with keeping up with all the snow unlike SOMD we are more prepared here I guess you can say.

Very true. I lived in Western Massachusetts for several years where we would get buried in several feet of snow quite often so the road crews were always prepared for the worst.

Not really related but a cool video nonetheless:

See boiling water turn to snow!

Filmed on Mt. Washington, temp of -37 with 100+ MPH gusts and a wind chill factor of -80 to -100. :faint:

Who Makes the call to dsismiss?? I would imagine it to be the S.I. Could he not go to weather underground and check the radar??

They did not make the best decision. Based on the weather reports yesterday I predicted, “way less than an inch if anything at all” for St. Mary’s. I posted this on one of the SOMD threads yesterday and I’m just an amateur. My hat goes off to Fairfax and Monkey counties who both actually got some snow. Perhaps SMCPS could take a page out of their books.

It is now 3:30pm where is the SNOW!! :jameo:

Wow! It’s a good thing they closed schools early. Otherwise the buses would have had to take the kids home during pristine driving conditions.
