St. Mary's Landing What's the Deal?

Oooh! What a shame. A good college level culinary program could make all of the difference by giving people the management and technical skills they need.

The program is offered through the tech center. I believe they can use those two years toward pursuing their culanary education further.

Thinking back, a lot of the people here complained about the restaurants that were here and demanded the various Counties' Board of Commissioners do "something". Well they did "something" and got the chains in. And now we've got complaints.

As a note. almost every restaurant at every price point gets some or most of their stuff from SYSCO. You just have to watch the trucks getting unloaded.

Just because there is a sysco truck doesn't mean they are getting premade meals. You can get meats, pantry items, cooking/restaurant supplies, condiments, etc from there.

So people still go there for the food? I really thought they went for the bar. That's the part the used to always be packed, with the exception of Sunday mornings (post church breakfast crowd).

Randomly stopped there to eat when traveling to St. Mary's late-ish one Friday night and those old people were ROCKING out. It was a little loud for dinner conversation, but most people looked like they were there to dance.

I know exactly what you mean. I grew up in NJ and miss good diners. ....

I would think about the 5/235 split a good 24/7 diner would do some business.
How I miss diners, a place where you could get breakfast when you wanted breakfast, or just a snack and cup of coffee.

Time of day doesn't limit the menu.

Funny..that is, of course, where SML was originally...with a different name. And where SML is now was House of Ribs..and the owner George was a real trip.

Years ago, I used to eat breakfast every morning at a classic "dining car" diner in Howard County..just west of Ellicott City on old RT. 40. Ate dinner at the same place many an evening too. I have to wonder if its even possible that one of those traditional diners with its very limited seating could make a go of it today.

Rats. I had to look. I feel that much older now...

Most of you guys wouldn't go to a "diner". It wouldn't have the right ambience, or have free range coffee, or free trade chicken or whatever the newest in boutique causes is. You all are the ones that demanded that SoMD get the Ruby Tuesday's and the IHOPs and the Applebee's and on and on and on.

A diner would go broke depending on you all.

I didn't demand a bunch of chain restaurants.

I have the same letters after mine as well as a few others. We can meet any time and I can do the tutoring since your posts imply you don't understand the economics of this area.

No. I just don't agree with your defeatest assessment. Resume twisting aside, my suggestion that a restaurant with good management and food centrally located in a flock of 250,000 government workers can be wildly successful isn't much of a stretch. I get the impression that you're the guy that sits in a boardroom and tells everybody "why" it can't be done. No one starts a business with an expectation that it will fail.

You still have some posts to catch up on and then hopefully you will get it.

Businesses can not succeed on wishes and wants. Once gov changes around here more new mom and pop businesses can be successful.

An MBA does NOT guarantee that anyone knows how to run a business. Just sayin....

Not true. It shows you know "how" to run a business, whether or not you possess all of the intangibles is another matter all together. Any reputable MBA program ensures it's graduates have the "know how."

STEELERS NATION!!
The last couple times I've been to SML, I thought it was good. We had good service and the food was good. I havent been there for breakfast for a while so I don't know how that is.

On a side note, for a little mom and pop place thats good, try Laredo's in White Plains. We went there last week and it is still a great place. The food was awesome!
