St. Mary's Today Advertiser Boycott

Hello,

I have been living in St. Mary's county for roughly 6 years now. As many of you know, there are very few sources of news local to southern MD. We have SOMD.com and the Enterprise which provide honest news stories based on facts. Often times though, you only get a small article regarding the subject you wish to read about (not a fault of either of these organizations, just reality). So what do we do? We turn to the internet and search for the topic which we'd like to know more about. This search often leads to the St. Mary's Today. This RAG tries to pass itself off as real news. The only thing real coming from this organization is the bitter views of its editor, Mr. Ken Rossignol. His articles are written on 10% truth and 90% attention grabbing B.S. I keep waiting to read about how he fathered Tara Reid's alien baby. Maybe in next weeks edition...

Most of us know all about the St. Mary's Today and realize that it is just the fake news ala "The Enquirer". But many of us have friends and family from out of town who also stumble upon this mass of jumbled words spewed from a bitter man and do not know the history of lies which it produces.

Okay, the point of this thread...
What can we do about this situation? He's has first amendment rights just as I do right?

This is what I propose:

-Go to www.stmarys.com

-Write down the names of every advertiser on the site.

-BOYCOTT these businesses until they remove their advertisements from the St. Mary's Today website!!

Don't allow our local honest businesses to be mired in the soot that the St. Mary's today creates.

Please reply to this thread to show your support of this boycott and let southern maryland know that we won't stand for the false reporting of our neighbors, friends and family.

Thank you,

Lance Milan

I can't agree at all. It might not be the best written paper, but the stories are generally true. Ken has just dedicated himself to covering DWI's and what he percieves as injustices perpetrated by "the man" on all of us.
I don't believe everything that is written in any paper, but to say that the today is 90% lies is total BS

most of the people that have a problem with him have been featured on the DWI Hit Parade.

I know plenty of people who have never been featured in his rag, but they still know it's a rag.

I'm not saying its not poorly written and slanted, but the original post claims its only 10% true, and that just isn't the case.

You realize, of course, that this story better be true or he could sue you for slander.

I think it's silly to boycott advertisers. They're just trying to put their business in front of an audience. And, like it or not, St. Mary's Today has an audience. Plus Ken used to (not sure if he still does) use filler advertisements - these businesses didn't pay to be in there. It's not really fair to punish them for something they had nothing to do with.

Believe me, I've been featured in the Rag myself so I know how annoying it is when things are misreported and false accusations are made. But take it out on him by not buying his paper, don't take it out on the advertisers.

Good thing you used your name, I'm sure KR will be happy to print it! GFY! :yay:

No, i have never been featured on his DWI hit parade or anywhere else until today. I have nothing to hide, i have no problem using my name.

This thread was promted by the way he reported the deaths of two people in an auto accident on saturday night. It contradicted police and fire department reports, and made one of the victims out to be the negligent cause of the accident.

You are probably right about the 10% and 90% thing. It was an exageration, but I am not trying to portray myself as an impartial news source. However, regardless of percentages, the man writes what he wants with no regards to the health of the southern maryland community and I feel he is not a positive contributor to our area. Just my .02

Gotta agree with R. on this one. The sugestion that the salt spewing from a truck can cause a two ton vehical with the latest in electonic stability control to run off the road seems a little far fetched.

I agree with you. However this is the only way an average person like myself can make any (if any) difference.

If my company were to be advertised on his website, I would sue if he did not immediately take down the advertisement. In my mind these companies should do the same...

Again, he took it out of context. I was not blaming the salt truck, or even claiming that was in fact what happened. I was questioning his overwhelming confidence in knowing what actually happened.
