These actions follow repeated private and public warnings that we have issued to the Russian government, and are a necessary and appropriate response to efforts to harm U.S. interests in violation of established international norms of behavior.

All Americans should be alarmed by Russia’s actions. In October, my Administration publicized our assessment that Russia took actions intended to interfere with the U.S. election process. These data theft and disclosure activities could only have been directed by the highest levels of the Russian government. Moreover, our diplomats have experienced an unacceptable level of harassment in Moscow by Russian security services and police over the last year. Such activities have consequences. No voting machines have been reported to have been hacked. No results tampered with.

CIA Concludes Russian Interference Aimed To Elect Trump

The CIA has concluded that Russia intervened in the 2016 election specifically to help Donald Trump win the presidency, a U.S. official has confirmed to NPR.

"Before, there was confidence about the fact that Russia interfered," the official says. "But there was low confidence on what the direction and intentionality of the interference was. Now they [the CIA] have come to the conclusion that Russia was trying to tip the election to Trump."

The official adds: "The reason the assessment changed is that new information became available" since Oct. 7, when the Department of Homeland Security and the Director of National Intelligence released a joint statement accusing Russia of interfering with the American election process.

CIA Concludes Russian Interference Aimed To Elect Trump

TJ's point is that the votes were not hacked; as in, the voting machines that were electronic, or the actual votes reported, or anything like that was not tampered with. "Interference" is nebulous, like "Climate Change", or "Hope and Change". Meaningless words that make you think you heard something tangible, but without ever saying anything. Like when your coworker shows you a picture of her hideous troglodyte baby, and you smile and say, "wow, that's quite a little baby" with enthusiasm in your voice - you never say anything good at all, but momma goes away feeling proud of the hideous hairy potato she gave birth to.

What did the Russians do to "interfere"? We know the DNC leaks were leaks, not hacks. We know the publishing of the DNC and Podesta e-mails were by someone who specifically says they came from DNC people (and potentially the NSA), and specifically says Russia wasn't involved. We know that all of the intelligence agencies won't tell Congress why they think it was Russians; the only ones who will say it are politicians who really hate Trump (and the net effect is that Trump's presidency is illegitimate).

Smoke, mirrors, impressions. TJ has bought it, and thinks anyone who sees through the smoke is stupid. That's all there is to her rant.

Which begs some questions... Why is Obama responding to this, at this time, the way he is? Is it just to put roadblocks in front of Trump? Is it to create more division between us and Russia? Or is Obama somehow trying to find a way to delegitimize the election; (my conspiracy side) even deem the election invalid?

I agree with you completely. But, the evidence doesn't point to "rigging" or hacking the "election", so to speak. There is evidence (i'm sure) of people hacking the DNC. It seems inconceivable there's no one trying to hack the DNC, the RNC, and key people around those in powerful positions or influential relationships.

But, the charge isn't that Russia "hacked the election". The charge is that Russia "hacked", and that Russia "influenced". Two separate things. TJ and those like TJ want people to confuse and conflate these two things as if they were the same. The best way to shut up such idiots is to ask them point blank what Russia did to influence the election. We know it wasn't russia who leaked the emails to Wikileaks, so they can't use that.

So the Russians hacked the DNC (Not a governmental agency) due to lax email security and exposed corruption and obnoxious, elitist behavior and a national party's collusion with one candidate to defeat another candidate and they are being punished.

I have a few questions.

1. Why are we not giving them a medal for pulling back the curtain on a group of very bad people working for a very bad person?

2. I hear the DNC raised or had access to nearly a Billion dollars. Why did they not set up a secure network to communicate their nastiness and scandal securely?

3. Since nothing in the hacked emails has been denied, have the democrats apologized for being nasty and corrupt, prior to punishing the people who exposed them for being nasty and corrupt?

4. Is Obama pursuing the people who hacked and released the Billy Bush tape or Trumps Tax returns that Hillary referenced during the debates? That certainly had an impact.

5. Why is a national party using gmail?

7. Didn't the Russians like Hillary's reset button?
