Back in the old days of Usenet - heard plenty of stories of anonymous persons shooting up windows of some person they met online, due to some perceived sleight. Knowing and armed with that, I've striven to do two things -

Yeah, actually there have been recent studies on that very phenomenon. Previous studies focused more on why conservatives tended to be happier, more content, but those recent studies are trying to nail down why leftists are so UNHAPPY.

If I remember correctly, they seem to believe that it has to do with the locus of control (external v. internal). I'll have to read up on it as I skimmed through pretty quickly.
