You know, if you Google cheating in elections - no matter how many ways to Sunday you try to rephrase the question, you are highly likely to ONLY produce articles referring to Trump and 2020 - even though Gore claimed cheating in 2000, Hillary claimed cheating in 2016 and Stacey Abrams claimed cheating in 2018 - and all of them to this day INSIST that they were the rightful winners.
But we DO KNOW of much longer histories of suspected cheating - such as the 1960 election of Kennedy - or even the 1948 election of Truman.
In fact - a deep dive using search engines that are NOT Google or Yahoo produced a little gem declaring that elections today are SO MUCH MORE SECURE than they were in the past 200 years, when all forms of voter suppression and cheating were employed. That all of the measures we have since implemented ensure a secure, honest election.
Sure - and if you put up a security system - you don't need to CHECK your belongings.
Somewhere in my library collection, there's this book of satire where at one point it says (for amusement) that people used to be ignorant, but they have been getting smarter and smarter - until they are like they are TODAY.
See - you can TRY to keep something honest - but a determined crook will A find a way around it. You can guard your house with a watchdog, but if the dog's loyalty can be bought with a piece of steak the burglar is GOING TO BRING ONE. If your belongings are in a safe and its hinges can easily be pried off - the thief isn't going to waste time guessing the combo. You can even build a wall at a nation's border, but people will build tunnels, bribe officials, arrive with metal cutting tools or smuggle people in via legitimate entry. They WILL beat your laws UNLESS you are determined to stop them.
Let's put it this way - if you knew the mob was dead set on killing you, would you be satisfied that you lock the door at night? Or that you have a safe room, with impregnable entry? What if they just torch or bomb your home, with you safely tucked inside?
You MUST continually take measures to protect an election, or people will ALWAYS find a way to circumvent the protections. As long as there is strong motive to win an election, people will ALWAYS find ways to ensure they win. Even if it's done by cheating.
