I have pet rats....and although they are TOTALLY different from wild ones, it hurts my feelings that you are making a joke of them being eatten by feral cats. :frown:

I would not have a problem watching a feral cat be euthanized. So what if they're dumped in a 55 gallon drum and incinerated? They're already dead.....they don't care. Geesh, I don't mean to sound callous, but they are humanely euthanized. It's not like they're tortured.

And dogs and cats in the shelter is a HELLUVA lot different than feral cats.

Great!! I applaude your spirit and your humaness!!
Go have a good time!
Ever seen an animal places in a gas chamber with a bunch of others, and the gas turned on?
Go look and tell me if it is humane?
Be sure to bring popcorn,..it takes a while until they all stop twitching and gasping.
And to think, someo of them were care for and loved by your kind!!
Have a good time!!

 They pee in their cage, thanks. And only the males dribble. The females don't. Thought you knew it all, huh? Guess you're just full of shiat. I thought you were "Little Miss Perfect Animal Lover." So, only certain animals are worthy of your love?

I was not baiting you. I was replying to your post, meant to put me down and make me feel guilty for feeling the way I do. I'm sorry you feel like you have to be so extreme and play the guilt trip. I have seen animals be euthanized, thanks. If it ends a life of suffering, it's worth it.

I didn't think you were baiting her. I understood exactly what you were trying to say and I agree with you. Death is not nice. Death is not pretty. Unfortunately there are times when it is the lesser of two evils.

Exactly..so why should we go out of our way to protect them and make sure they are released back into the wild? They are not a 'native' species....euthanizing feral cats can be a positive thing.

And quit yelling at people to stop feeding the feral cats....you do the same thing.

:offtopic: But did you know earth worms are not a native species? (Learned that in a National Geographic story on Jamestown).

I don't think she was yelling at people for feeding feral cats, so much as telling whatshername (too far back in the thread to remember) that she caused the problem she has now by feeding them.

There's more than one way to skin a cat (hehe) and I believe inkpen was simply offering up an alternative option.

I just learned that too!

A stray would be a cat that was dumped by its owner, lost, etc. It is fairly friendly..maybe timid and has a chance at being a "nice" kitty.

A feral cat is generally born in the wild...or had been a stray/homeless cat for a long, long time and cannot be rehabilitated.

A 3 week old feral kitten would rip your hand to shreds.

Not exactly true......my 12 year old cat started out as a feral cat, mom and dad cat were dumped at my aunt and uncles house. He had recently gone to the cat food they left out in the yard when I got him. It took a little while to catch him, and my uncle had on thick gloves. But after my uncle caught him, he just handed him over to me (nothing to protect me from claws). The kitten snuggled right up to my neck, and started purring. He's one of the sweetest, loving cats I've ever been around. I've also had a friend who got a feral kitten who turned out to be the most loving cat. But like I said before, it's the case that the ferals and strays are not getting their shots, and that poses the threat in itself.

I trapped my feral and down both sides of her face was a discharge. This is why we all took so much effort in trapping her. I was concerned that she had distemper and that she could give that to my animals even though they both had a vaccine against it. It is my understanding that a distemper shot only last 1-year. People always remember the rabies but seem to forget that is serious and fatal too.

She hissed and clawed my husband like crazy and he threw her in the cage to get her off of him.

Not hard but with enough force to jolt her. The next day she was better to handle, but it was about a week before we felt ok to not use gloves.
