I saw a report yesterday that some school districts are going to start serving road-kill venison that they get from highway maintenance crews doing roadside cleanups.

It's very lean.

My Grandkids love Venison. Matter of fact it wouldn't tick me off if we started trapping some of these herds we have down here and selling the meat.
I saw 40 in a field the other day.

Clearly you do or you wouldn't be so concerned about what the State is serving them for lunch.

Most of those kids pay for that meal of crap. When the parents are paying for the meal they should have some say in what it is.
If the school is serving it for free , they can serve what they like.
No Conservative is saying it is the States job to feed their children. they are saying if they are paying for it, that it is the States job to serve them something fit to eat.

I was curious, so I searched and found this menu.

It looks like they balance "healthy" with "edible" pretty damn good.

So it's your contention that since you pay for school lunches with your tax money you should have the final say in what to feed grade school , middle and high school students , why not colleges ?

You wouldn't have a clue what college cafeterias look like, kid.

If you like paying for a meal that your children toss in the trash, that is fine with me, I have no argument with that.

And Yes, If I am paying for a meal for my child it should be tasty and edible.
When a child goes to college they can leave the campus and eat anything they like.
These kids do not have that choice.

If you like paying for a meal that your children toss in the trash,

Kids have been tossing their lunch in the trash at least since I was in elementary school. That is nothing new. Didn't matter whether they bought lunch or brought it from home, at least some of it usually went in the garbage.

And Yes, If I am paying for a meal for my child it should be tasty and edible.

School lunches have always been mediocre at best. Maybe some schools had wonderful home made food lovingly hand crafted by grandmothers, but none of my schools had that.

Blah school lunches and food being thrown away is nothing new, and the only reason you Republicans care all of a sudden is because Michelle Obama is involved.

So you are absolutely certain that it has not gotten worse? I'm not.

I have no idea. But I do know that those photos they show of garbage cans filled with uneaten school lunches bring back a lot of memories.

And I don't know, but am pretty sure, that the vast majority of schools still allow students to bring lunch from home. If your kid won't eat what is being served at school, they can pack a lunch.

Something else I know is that it used to be a conservative talking point how schools weren't supposed to be raising our children; that was supposed to be the parents' job. Yet all of a sudden it's become the school's responsibility to feed children; not only feed them, but feed them food that they will lick their plate over.

.

Ever consider the possibility that your memories might differ significantly from the experiences others had? I recall quite the opposite. But I am certainly aware how the quality of school-prepared food has always varied a LOT from one system to the next. What I've read about this subject over the last few years leads me to believe that overall, the quality and appeal of the typical school lunch has been degraded by the new standards. And that conclusion is certainly not at odds with the various reports of school systems withdrawing from the program so that they can try and put out food more kids will eat; however scattered or anecdotal those reports might be.
