Stuffed Ham

Ok, I know I've seen this discussed numerous times, but it's about that time of year again, so I thought I'd ask....

Which businesses ship their stuffed ham?

I don't live in Maryland any more but have been raving about the stuffed ham to my colleagues, even showed them a picture and they all just think it looks terrible. So now I'm on a mission, I want to have it shipped out here so I can share...

Any info is much appreciated!

Where is "out here", and how much are you willing to spend? The shipping alone will be quite pricey.

"Out here" would be California...the state, not the city!

And I figured the shipping will be quite pricey, I imagine they'll have to use dry ice or some special packing to keep it cold.

TIA

I can tell you that coming from a family that stuffs several hams a year, depending on the price of the ham if you can find it on sale, you'll pay anywhere from 50 to 100 plus dollars on the ham and stuffing alone. If you go with a store stuffing it for you, you're looking at 7 to 10 bucks a pound. If you find someone to stuff it for you, probably 75 bucks in labor. This ham could cost you 300 bucks or more. You must really like your co-workers! :killingme

When I was living in Maine, I stuffed a ham one Christmas and took it back with me. Everyone looked at me like I had three heads. Can I tell you, they all LOVED it, and the ones I still stay in contact with still talk about that Southern Maryland Stuffed ham

lol...I bet they did. So you really think its going to be like $300? Wow, I didn't plan on spending that much. I wasn't thinking of a whole ham either. I was thinking more like buying it by the pound.

In any case, thanks for the info.

We buy the hams from Mckays and it DOES take lots of labor to stuff it.... but it is 1000x's better than any store purchased ham!!!!!

Why not order a corned ham from the grocer out there and stuff it yourself? Not real hard just time consuming.

He kept insisting I was talking about corned beef. :jameo:

That is so funny. When I was growing up my God Mother would make standing rib roast every New Years Eve for us. So a few years back I went to the butcher to order one so I could make it myself. They had no clue what I was talking about. Told me there was no such thing. lol

So finding a corned ham could prove to be very VERY tricky. :) Otherwise I would totally be up to the challenge.

Don't some people use a different kind of ham other than corned? I thought I read some recipes that called for a differnt type.
