I have the street glide, why is the road glide more attractive to you?

I have the street glide, why is the road glide more attractive to you?

Fixed faring, frame mounted, on the RG. Rock solid in the wind vs. some of the wind input you get on the fork mounted one. I've ridden a boat load of Ultra classics with forked mounted (basically your bike just not lowered) and can't say that it is terrible but, it is there and rumor has it that sometimes, at high speed and/or high winds, the fork mounted one can give you a serious shimmy. Most people's reaction is to back off and that makes it worse, making the bike unstable as well as the fairing 'sailing' a tad. I know two people personally that this has happened to but, they are both of dirt bike back ground so, they didn't let off and it settles down pretty quick. I have read of people losing it.

Also, the fork mounted is much easier to maneuver at low speed than my Strat, parking lots and so forth. The RG is noticeably easier than the fork mounted.

I've heard that put out there before too..but I put a lot of miles on my '85 Classic and never experienced anything at all like that. The fairing on the '01 I just bought is practically identical so I'm not expecting anything 'funny' to happen with that one either.

Now my '47, on the other hand; that develops a pretty wicked shimmy at about 65 mph (and at lower speeds around corners) and it does not even have a fariing. :razz: Fortunately, the overall vibration level makes my vision so blurry that I don't notice the shimmy all that much.

Yeah, I hear a lot of fork fairing folk say they've never had a problem as well and all the different years I've ridden, and I ride pretty hard, I've never felt it either but, I can feel the wind on it.

In any event, The last time I road a Road King, I couldn't wait to get back on the Strat. The RK felt like a bucket of bolts and VERY cramped. This AM when I took back the RG, the Strat felt not like a bucket of bolts but, rather...spartan...and very plain. The RG is a NICE machine. All day comfortable, good performance, and, as I mentioned, great low speed manners. I have more room on the RG as well (tall, long legs), which surprised me, and the Strat felt more upright when I got back on it which REALLY surprised me because it has always felt down low compared to everything else.

In any event, the Strat still has it flat out #### 'n git but, my next bike will likely be a RG.

Interesting. Never rode in high wind yet. I like the low speed thing though. I think I didn't like the paint choices mostly. Newer ones are better. Stripe is less obnoxious.

We put on 100 miles last night. REAL nice bike. Handles really nice in the twists and hills and superb on straights but, need a taller windshield. Too much helmet buffet over 50 mph.

Next up, K1600 GTL and a Wing. :dye:

I figure the windscreen would be too short. Those are cheap though.

You can rent them? K1600 GTL would be awesome. I still think the wing is just too big for me.
