THANK YOU Oldman.....I would hate to have to ask some hunter to please let me have my saddle off of HIS deer :ohwell:

I have heard of several people riding that have gotten shot..I respect hunters and dont ride when they are hunting. For my own safety and to not chace their deer away..I stay OUT OF THE WOODS 5 days a week hunting season..I really do like my Sundays in the woods.

Most trail riders ride all year round but usually limit it to Sunday's because of hunting season. Sundays are usually the day we pick to ride because we know that we are suppose to be safe from hunters. Most riders go out of thier way to stay out of hunting areas. I have come across hunters were I ride but they know were around also. Besides if you can't establish the difference between a horse and deer. Look before you shoot rule.. You don't need a gun in your hand. Most riders dress so they can be seen. Most hunters are responsible but then you have the idiots out there. Besides Sundays should be a day for family outings...My horse is my daughter so we go trail hiking..... :howdy:

Ok, I can see your point here on this one, then maybe you'd be willing to allow for the of the rest of us to hunt on Sundays on private land.

The problem I have is that, I never see families out strolling in the state parks when it's 30-40 degrees outside during deer season.

Definitely! Private Land = Have At It. I would even go a step further and say that landowners should be able to hunt their own land any time they want, year 'round. I was only talking about public lands because my backyard joins on to St. Mary's River Park.

St. Mary's Lake is the main place for trail riders to go. At one section of it there is a private hunting land area. So even if it's on private land and it butts up to a state park we as riders are still not totally safe. Unless they have a buffer between the state & private land. A missed shot is going to hit something?

It's a small world, my grandfather used to own all the land that is now Cox Run. and my grandparents still own all the property to the South of the park.

I meant the all-woods area north of the lake portion of the park... I don't think anyone is riding horses in there - it's too thick and I don't think there are any developed trails, other than power line access roads. But you make a good point.

I have ridden all areas of the state park even the hunting/wildlife side and I know when I can and can't safely ride. Even if there is no made trails doesn't mean a horse can't go there. I have been to Kmart, Norris rd., up to L-town area from the lake side and wildlife side.... Be surprised how many old trails or logging roads there are back there......

In my opinion

:howdy: everyone...this is my first post on SOMD which I have recently been checking out. Really nice and seemingly friendly site that kicks around a bit of fun too. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Sunday Hunting...a very big issue for me being a transplant from the midwest where we were able to hunt on Sunday. Matter of fact, when I move here I was shocked that there were still places that you could not hunt on Sunday...MD being 1 of only 7 remaining states where that is the case. It's also the oldest remaining "blue law" on the books in MD. That said, here are a couple of thoughts...
-First of all, the two Sunday hunting days that were approved were only on private land. Most hunters don't own their own land and depend on State land for hunting. Without Sunday hunting, most hunters only get one day a week to hunt...not 6. Most can only hunt on Saturday since Mon-Fri are days that they are working to support their families. Even Saturdays can be difficult to hunt for some that work more than just M-F. Saturdays can also be difficult due to sports and/or other activities that the hunters kids may be involved with.
-Sunday being a day to spend with family is no argument if that persons family also likes to hunt. Or...what if I don't have family here to spend time with? It's nobodys business to tell me what I should or should not do on Sunday.
-Deer don't need Sunday to rest...they do that M-F when hunters are at work.
-When I'm not hunting, I still spend a lot of time in the state parks and wildlife management areas hiking and scouting. I VERY rarely see any horseback riding going on on Sunday and don't buy this argument at all. I'm not saying there are not riders out there, but that there are not as many as are claimed by the groups that use that as a reason to keep Sunday hunting out.
-I can fish, why not hunt? I can plop my as$ on my couch and watch football all day, why not hunt? I can hike, ride, scout, and any other otherwise legal activity on Sunday...why not hunt?
There are a lot of other issues, but I'll get off my soap box now and stop with the :blahblah: . Probably not a very good first post to put on the board, but....
I'll close by saying that I am working very hard with MD legislation and trying to get the law changed. Sorry if that turns some off, but it's being worked very hard by myself and lots of others.

Now, my SO is out of town tonight....anyone want to go have a beer?

From the DNR's site:

What's New for 2006-2007

Sunday Hunting
Legislation passed during the 2006 session of the General Assembly now allows for deer hunting on private lands in Anne Arundel and Montgomery Counties on the first Sunday of the deer bow season in November and the first Sunday of the deer firearms season in November.

Too late, already had a couple, day off.
I can't figure why they would have a law about that. Kinda weird, huh? Arizona didn't. That's what weekends were for.

Any sensible and responsible hunter wouldn't shoot at yell.......But we would cuss you to know end :lmao:

Seriously on Private land it should be allowed......I have over 300 acres of land to hunt I should be allowed to hunt whatever day I want. Nobody should be walking through my woods....if they are there trespassing :coffee:

Just my 2 cents

In addtion to Sundays raise the dam limit on Geese from 2 to 5 like the rest of the people on the other side of route 301! :burning:

I'm tired of being out of the blind and packing up by 7:30am after 1 volley!

It seems the horsey set doesn't want to abide by the same rules as hunters.
Stay off private property and you won't have a prolem. Just because you believe in " I am not harming anything" it is still trespassing. :buttkick:
