So, how's everyone enjoying the mandated raised thermostats in base buildings now that it's 90plus and humid? All the money they are trying to save by no A/C we are spending with our rouge desk fans.

Stupid

Well, there you are! :huggy: Yes, stupid. Why are they posting new government hires, selling the Post Offices through a private entity, furloughed employees can now get unemployment, and the WH is still closed to the public, etc.etc.etc. I don't see where money is being saved at all. I just see hard working government employees suffering in a ridiculous environment, and all hard working Americans being taxed up the butt. Is this intended to make people vote for Democrats in 2014 and 2016? All I see is backfire, and I am hoping I am right.

The sequestration and furloughs were never about money, they are all a political game and we are nothing but pawns.

I know nothing of rogue desk fans. Are you sure you don't mean rogue portable A/C?

My work is just the opposite. People wear long sleeves or sweaters during the summer months because our offices are kept so cold.

if you will
My portion of our building seems to go into cooling and then actually heating cycles. And the thermostat doesn't stay steady on 79. It wanders up and down by five degrees. Thankfully it hasn't gone above 79 yet....

Are all these stories about sweaters and heaters from Governement workspaces? If so, how well implemented is this 79* mandate?

Well, if they are spaces with a large amount of computers, then it makes sense, those things need to be kept cool. Think servers and such.

When it gets unbearably hot in your building, just look for the thermostat. Bring in one of those rice-filled neck roll thingies, and put it in the microwave till it gets nice and hot. Then place it on the thermostat. The warmth from the neck roll thingy will cause the a/c to turn on.

In the winter, use a bag of frozen peas to get the heat to turn on.

I used to live in an apartment with one of those clear plastic lock boxes over the thermostat. This was our "work-around" so that we could be comfortable despite the landlord trying to be unreasonable with the heat and a/c settings.

That's a great idea!

Our thermostat doesn't have a lock box but rather the settings are coded from the big kahuna (wherever and whomever that may be). :ohwell:

:bawl: Such sad stories

I'd be willing to feel sorry for you folks suffering though 78 degrees If I hadn't spent yesterday out in the middle of an asphalt parking lot teaching a beginners motorcycle class in Anacostia.

Drank 2 quarts of Gatoraid without needing to pee :hot:
