Swollen Uvula

On a serious note- AHEM-my uvula was removed when they removed my tonsils a few years ago. I had a sleep study and was told I had sleep apnea. Once the ENT saw how bad my tonsils were scarred from infections all my life, he removed my uvula as well. It has caused me no difficulties in swallowing-please no wisecracks- and helped with my snoring and quality of sleep.
Have your husband go to an ears, nose and throat specialist if it continues to bother him.

Well, the uvula is like the appendix or tonsils huh?; no adverse effects from removal.

Had mine removed years ago for snoring. Didn't help much, just a different sound now.

Husband had another episode Sunday night/Monday morning. Freaked him out so bad that he asked me to stay home with him while he slept just in case (I normally leave for work at 3:40am). So, he's going to talk to an ENT doctor about having his uvula removed. Which doctor did you use, Vince and FF?

I had mine done by Dr. Daidone at Calvert. She was great. I had tonsils, uvula, and soft palate all done at the same time. It was the worst pain I have ever had. Imagine a raging case of strep that goes on for 2 weeks. The liquid vicodin didn't really help with the pain, it just made me care a little less.

The husband of a forumite had his done about a year ago. I warned her about the pain but she said he handles pain well so it wouldn't be a problem, implying that I was just being a wimp. He ended up in the ER a couple of times for the pain and because he didn't eat or drink anything for days. At least I wasn't that bad!

Thanks for the recommendation on the doctor. Hurts that bad, huh?? Maybe I should tell him to get it done near his parent's house in GA. That way, they'd have to deal with him instead of me. He doesn't handle pain well.

Any swelling in, or of the airway is cause for alarm. It must have been bad for him to want you to stay home. I hope he gets better soon. Dr. Mara Daidone is a great ENT.
