We learned sex ed (birth control, diseases, yada yada) in school and it really had no impact one way or the other. Kids feel they are invulnerable, it's just their mindset. "Education" doesn't really mean squat at that age.
Very true. I knew the risks, saw the rotted off :gossip: - didn't stop me.

You cannot give a teen child the freedom of constant non-supervision. They are incapable of handling it, no matter how good of a parent you think you are.
Couldn'ta said it better meself

Right now, the school board has mandated that the curriculum only include abstinence.

Sure, pass it off on the schools. We know where what good that does. It's up to the parents to teach morals and values to their children (if they have any themselves). If little "Suzie" gives a friend 2 aspirins, she gets suspended. If "Suzie" gets pregnant at 16 the school can take her for an abortion w/o her parents permission.

WOW, bunch of friggin brain surgeons up there.. you think they might admit to making a mistake and allow the kids to be educated? Or is that against their religious beliefs, while lil Suzie is getting treated for Chlamydia?
Nice that you threw in the religious angle again.

Wonder if the school is allowed to teach evolution...
And again...surely you don't think they're teaching creationism now do you?

I can't imagine how self-rightous it is of you, that you may never need to ask God for prayers ( or to ask someone else to pray) for yourself, your SO, or even one of your children one day.

Kids are alot further educated these days than back in the day. I am 39 and had my first at 14 and never stopped after that. (so set myself up with that last sentence) Anyway, a ten year old today and a ten year old ten years ago are totally different. With all the sex on TV you don't think they would get curious? We as parents can only do but so much to protect them. Peer pressure in school always has been and always will be incredible. Who wants to be the 12 year old boy that didn't get laid? Gross as that sounds.

:bs: Sex is sex, I'm 36 year's old so I'm totally not buying that a ten year old today is totally different than a ten year old when I was a ten year old. We don't evolve that rapidly. What may have changed is the parents willingness to be up their kids butt and know what they're doing.

I mean, how hard is it to keep track of where your kid is? Especially under the age of 16 where their sole form of transportation is mom and dad (or at least it should be). How difficult is it to call up where they are going and clear it with their parents, then following up with a walk up to the door when you drop your kid off?

A 12 year old having sex disturbs me. :faint:

He doesn't mean it. He only does it to get a rise out of those silly religious folks. :yay:

I used the age ten as a round number about being different. Not about having sex. My daughter who has since graduated high school has told me that kids find places in school to play with eachother If they want it bad enough then they do it. I don't condone it. Please understand that. I still have a 13 year old son and a 2 year old daughter. I still have lots of time to lose my mind with them both.

That does not surprize me at all. I was in Target and my cart hit the stand and all the clothes fell. As I was picking them, up a couple of girls on the other side were talking about a sex party they were going to. I heard the one girls tell the other not to worry because all the guys were bringing in tons of condoms.....yeah they must have been 15/16. I don't think they realized I was there. Scary stuff.

For real, Bob, use some common sense for a second. We either want our kids to have sex or we don't. If we don't, then we don't facilitate it by giving them condoms and putting them on the pill. That just green-lights the whole thing.

I told my daughters tough #### - if they get pregnant, they deal with it. If you're a big enough woman to have sex, you're a big enough woman to deal with your birth control or pregnancy. Cause I'm not dealing with it.

Do you know the teen pregnancy rate or the stats on gonorrhea in the Amish community? TIA

This is pretty sad.

I was recently at a party that had adults and teens. We frequently checked in on the teens and we refused to keep the little kids away from them. Little kids are a great deterrent for sexual mischief. One girl tried to get a group to go to the basement to "make out" as she put it. No one else agreed. I overheard it and had to remind her that the hosts of the party really didn't want her there anyhow and that kind of behavior is why they weren't welcoming her attendance with open arms. They behaved well for the rest of the evening.

And Bob - I can't speak for all schools or religions, but my children attend parochial school and the parents have been begging for sex education class as has the parental advisory board. Its the Archdiocese and our administrator that are holding up the education. Our parents are currently educating them at home on all aspects of sexual behavior, both good and bad.

Who said I didn't believe in God??

I don't believe in Religion, religion is an abomination, a BUSINESS, a way to make money, LOTS of tax free money, in the name of God. the Bible is a work of FICTION, loosely based on many other religions and rites that were also more then likely based on fiction.

Some day you'll awake to the truth, and see how much religion of any kind has perverted God.

I don't think any religion is more right or wrong than another. I have my own beliefs, but I think if there were a little more religion and parenting in these kids lives, there wouldn't be half the sh!t you see going on today including the Teen Sex parties.

One day (or not) you'll stop being a butthead who makes fun of people who DO have faith in the Lord. BTW, I'm not "religious" and your taunts don't hurt me one bit. Some days I'm rather amused that you (and so many other people here) go to so much trouble to make yourselves look like what comes out of the horse's behind. I realize all of you have shortcomings and it just makes you feel better to point to someone else, so they'll feel as small as you do.

Guess what?

It's not working. :neener:

I am so glad I don't have children. I mean I haven't had that many partners in my lifetime. I don't consider myself a prude, but I do have some decorum.

I also agree it is not the fault of the schools. Regardless what you teach children they, feel immortal, impervious, it can't happen to me. Even adults fall prey to this kind of thinking. No you can't pass the buck and say it's the schools fault. If you can't raise a child don't create one. It's not the job of the school or the government to teach your child right from wrong. You want your kids acting like congressmen? Take responsibility, be involved in your childs life.

As for the religion side of things. A persons spirituality is more important than their religion.

Thats my take.

Don't know I haven't met him yet, when I do I'll let ya know.

Could be Buddha, might be the Dalai Lama.. might be Howie Mandel, who knows... but I'm betting the bible doesn't have it right.

I don't need a book, or ten people interpreting the book (none of which are right), or a "corporation" to tell me how to live, or how to be a good person, nor do I need them to help me raise my children. I know right from wrong, I'm charitable... I take care of my children.. and I take the time to make sure they are raised correctly. I'm kind to my neighbors and my fellow workers. I don't have a criminal record. I don't need to tell anyone my sins, I know what I've done wrong. And I don't need to pay anyone 10% of my income to do any of the above for me, OR for my salvation.

It's ok for Christians to spout out their beliefs, but you find it offensive when I talk about mine. or disagree.

I get along with everyone, even if they dislike, or disagree with, me. I like to debate, but in the end, I accept and can be tolerant of your beliefs.

I'm around kids at the high school level all the time, and some of the things I've heard have made me :yikes: Not just stuff that goes on at parties, but stuff they do at school! Last year, I had heard so much about one girl I battled with the "should I talk to her mom" for about 2 months. I ended up talking to her mom. Talk about an uncomfortable conversation...

Show me exactly where I found your beliefs offensive by providing quotes and links.

Now that made me laugh! :killingme

Some of your most recent debate & tolerance from the Religion forum...

Speaking of Christs death. Why do churchgoers pray to and wear the crucifix? It's a device of execution like a guillotine or a noose. If he was "hung til dead" would Christians all be wearing nooses around their necks? And if it was current day would they be praying to Remington? Wearing a gold bullet around their necks?

Personally I find this disturbing, and want to think they really don't know what they have around their necks. Not only do the Catholics pray to it, making the cross is part of their prayers and all their ceremonies.. kind of weird I think.

Be honest, you just like to :poke: and there is no REAL debate or tolerance on your part. Most of us know that and it's why no one responded to this thread you started in the religion forum...http://forums.somd.com/showthread.php?t=83360

Don't bother with the outright lies and childish :bs: Bob, because it's just too easy to prove you wrong.

When I asked you a serious question you replied...

And yet another :poke:

Hold that thought while you accuse me of being offensive to you. No one here cares if you believe in God, Christianity, or the Holy Bible. You and everyone else are entitled to your beliefs. But to go poking around as much as you can until they've had enough of your crap (you collectively) can point your finger and say, "Oh look, that's not Christian of you" :blahblah: just makes you look ---> :dork:
