I don't think the Catholic, Protestant debate has too much merit.
Think about it.... when you and a friend meet someone... do you both come back equally affect by that encounter.
Look at Peter and John.... They both walked side by side with Jesus. They both were deeply impacted by Him. Do you think the impact was identical?
Jesus knows everyone, inside and out.... Each of us [as with Peter and John] are unique. We are each uniquely affected by events in our lives.
Peter saw the church in one way and John another and James another and so on and so forth.
The RCC and the Protestant churches are so busy trying to decide which is right that they are suffocating the reason for their existence... which is [by the way] the spreading of the Good News.
Then there are those who cannot or will not allow the Good News to get out. People like this are generally more like pharisees, self righteous, high minded, egotistical, and power hungry. They beat the drum about how one side is harming the other so loudly that the Good News is all but silenced.
It's all irritating to me. Let's get back to the truth... the reason churches exist at all.... Jesus.

There ya go, little onel - use your standard modus operandi by not liking the message, so attack the messenger and the vehicle it was presented on. He laid it out in plain, simple English on a VBS level (as you stated) that even you should be able to understand.
Nothing biblically untrue with the reasons in the post - that's what really gets your craw.

It is sort of like this. We're only being nice because we feel that Catholicism is an incomplete gospel at best and because we love Catholics, we try to appeal rather than repel.

In response to the document "Evangelicals and Catholics Together", some of our leaders sat down and basically said we will divide or cut them off if it threatens us.
The division is not caused by those who stand for truth but those who hold to false doctrine like the Catholic church.

I don't see chuck or me or anybody on this or other threads "bashing" your rcc. You guys have a real problem with your feelings getting hurt by anyone that does not stand for catholicism. So attack the messengers and messages.
What's to worry about for you guys anyway? Aren't you part of the largest, or second largest, single belief system in the world? And certainly the richest. So what do you have to fear so much that brings out such anger, vitriol, and immaturity against those that publicly disagree with your belief system.
You guys, everyday, especially the likes of onel, put out threads that extol the superiority of your rcc, which means you are putting down those that do not believe it. We're not getting our panties in a wad, or get worked up like ya'lls.
Chill out. You're not going to change, neither will protestants. Just remain calm about it. I really cannot see where the paranoid feelings come from, especially in MD, the bastion of US catholicism.

I understand your general sentiment and actually we should all be praying for Christian unity. I bite on certain people's posts and I should not.
That being said I will respectfully disagree on several of your points--I would fail my faith if I didn't. I would argue against your assertion that the Catholic Church is "too busy fighting for who is right that..." The RCC in modern times is NOT--because by its very existence they believe they are the authoritative church--like it or not, it is scriptural and they were for centuries so they're not really pressed about this. The RCC these days are too busy evangelizing, feeding the poor, caring for the sick, standing up for the unborn, the aged, and traditional marriage--LIKE KNOW OTHER RELIGIOUS GROUP ON THE PLANET. And let's not forget--a lot of those that benefit are not even Catholic. Where were all of the Protestant churches two weeks ago for the rally against Planned Parenthood all across the country. I was at one--didn't see a lot non-Catholics. Where are all of you in January on the mall every year for the right to life March?
I really for the life of me can't understand why some Protestants have such a difficult time with Peter. No organization on earth is leaderless. Period. Christ knew what His future held. Of course he left His work in the hands of a leader--a flawed, old coot like Peter--not different than me or you.
Again, I really equate some Protestant Churches with the social justice movements of today. Were their things in the 1500's that needed to be corrected? You betcha. Any real student of history knows that today's Protestant Churches are not the intended outcome of most of the reformers. Gay bishops, women bishops, etc...
Why do some fail to look at history? Were we meant to go at it alone with the whole "Jesus and me are BFFs and I don't need to go to a physical building? By the thousands of medieval churches still standing (some from the 4th century) I would say no. What was their purpose? "Wherever two are gathered...a fine example of cherry picking scripture...And the ridiculousness of the argument that RCC churches are too lavish...walk in most Catholic Churches--you'll FEEL like you're in sacred space. That's the point! Bare walls and a picture of a river flowing above a baptismal pool doesn't speak sacred to me...
