Texas Roadhouse is next in Park Place

It's a sad that people get excited here over a steakhouse chain being built.

At least perhaps this will mean a smaller crowd at Olive Garden. That place is always packed whenever I pass by.

Now if only they'd put in a goddamn modern movie theater with stadium seatings.

Wish it was a Buffalo Wild Wings

Nothing against Texas Roadhouse, but I really wish the original plan would of stuck and a B-dubs would be next. There are enough steakhouses aound here, but no good sports bars .... plus their wings are awesome!

I don't understand why the county doesn't step in and force one or both to be built, after all it was in their proposal.

I cannot think of virtually any kind of retail establishment, restaurant or otherwise, that could be built in this county now without a corresponding failure and closure of another one similar in service or product. So every single new 'anything' built these days is simply creating an empty space or building somewhere else nearby.

And so 235 looks like Waldorf now. Who couldn't have predicted that about 20 years ago? Oh wait...quite a few did; but none worked in country planning apparently.

This is going to be a really lovely county when the cutbacks that Gates recently announced start to hit home. Lots of unmaintained empty buildings...

You are correct about this and we already have lots of empty office buildings. Not to mention, the idiots who run this county decided that developers can now develop even more intensely in LP/California area by decreasing the 50% open area requirement now to 30% (not sure if this applies only to residential development or any development). Like we have the infrastructure to handle even more congestion. Would like to know which candidates would support/or not support this if elected. Anyone know?

They ought to put in a new movie theatre across from Wildewood where all the trees are being cleared adjacent to the cement plant. That place is scheduled to have tons of SF available, the Olive Garden development is/will be congested enough. The county is always making an excuse on why there can't be a new theatre. One is, there is not a big enough population. Hello! We have over 100,000 residents. They just don't want to take away one of the few money makers in LP proper. I have no doubt that a movie theatre further north would do well. There's no entertainment in that direction just restaurant after restaurant after restaurant.

I refuse to go to the Park movie theater anymore. It's nasty. I'd rather go up to Annapolis and go to a nice, comfortable theater. A new movie theater would do great here.

And Buffalo Wild Wings would have been packed all the time. I for one would have gone there constantly. All they had to do was look at the current food places we have now, most of them are always packed.

Are you an idiot or do you just play one online?

The "county" isn't in the theater (or restuarant) business and they have no control over what those who are.

From the business's perspective 100K is small. Only a small percentage of the population is going to be in the target demographic of potential theater goers (ticket buyers). The business knows how many people they have to run through the turnstile to break even, they pay people good money to study the spending habits. If the people that build and run theaters don't want to set up shop down here it's because they have a good idea it would be a money loser.

Developers can make (and will make) all kinds of promises to make their project look good. They have no reason to lie, they too are motivated by profit and I'm sure they'ld like that big ticket item. But if the enterprise doesn't see a profit, it's not going to invest, no matter what you think or what the moronic politicians think.

Well now, aren't you a bright little fellow. You obviously know little about county government, do you (especially St. Mary's)? In fact, the county sets regulations not only for planning and zoning but also has its hands in economic development. I can assure you if they want to do something or deny something they make it happen (or not), and that involves approving submitted plans (with all its details, i.e. restaurants, etc. included) moron. If you don't think that there are not backroom deals then you really are more ignorant than you sound. County regulations are full of loopholes and grandfathering and I'll rub your back, if you rub mine. I think that you probably agree with this since your adjective describing politicians (county government?) is less than flattering.

This excuse about not having the population to support a theatre has been circulating for a while now, it does not fly. Read my lips - it does not fly (even with all your "study" references). In addition to the dense LP district, soon to be denser, a new theatre would draw people from not only St. Mary's but from southern Calvert Co. as well. With regard to developers, I have never met an honest one. I think a four theatre operation would do quite nicely in the California area, people have been requesting a new movie theatre for years. The county is woefully lacking in entertainment venues, a common complaint. And as you are so terribly bright, why don't you do your own study and send out a questionnaire/poll and see how many people would respond to desiring a new theatre. I will repeat this for those who have trouble comprehending, the county does not want to lose one of the few money makers in LP, or lose a business that draws some people to the hurting LP proper. It is true, that times are tight and people are not investing, d-o y-o-u u-n-d-e-r-s-t-a-n-d???

Anybody notice the 97000 square foot office building plan approved that was reported in the Post yesterday? It will be built somewhere around rt 4 and rt 235.
Wish I could be more specific, but couldn't find the road on any map. Must be in the planning stage also.
When are the new bridge and 235 intersection going to be finished?

Mr Steed, I suggest you put your money where your fat mouth is. If it's that profitable, you build it (and pray they come). St. Mary's Co. can't take a #### without approval from Annapolis. Maybe you should read up on the form of government we have. If St. Mary's wants to change a dog walking ordinance they have to get the legislatrion passed in Annapolis. They have very limited power.
And they might be able to impede development, but they can't create it. It's private sector money. So if you think it's a profit maker, why don't you rustle up the cash and build yourself a brand spanking new, state of the art, movie house.

In regards to the "office space"... uh, could it be that tract of land on 235 (just north of 4) that was recently cleared - next to the quarry?

That's a big building, smilin. Did not see the Post yesterday but will look it up now that you have my curiosity. Maybe it's going in the development near Howlin Cement (across from Wildewood). Can't remember the name of that dev. to be, another grandfathered approval. Seems to me they planned a variety of uses back there, including warehouses I think. Who knows about the bridge/235 intersection, it's anybody's guess at this point. At least info. has been put out about ongoing feasibility/traffic studies.

If somebody could put out decent movies then maybe folks would come to a movie theatre. I can't think of a single good movie (recently) that has piqued my interest enough to go through the hassle of seeing it at a theatre.

Are you really that naive BP? Guess you haven't been here long enough!

What exactly are you asking/referencing here?

Have to agree with you, the offerings are pretty spare for people who like reasonably intelligent, entertaining fare. "Inception" wasn't too bad. I always shake my head when it's Oscar time, maybe one nominated best film has played here. Guess there are a lot of indiscriminate movie viewers in the area or people are just desperate for some form of entertainment.
