go to Catamarans in Solomons for a free Thanksgiving Dinner courtesy of Smileinc.org Everyone is invited to enjoy a free Thanksgiving, regardless of your income - rich or poor - all are invited. Not sure of the hours but they have it early, I think its over by 2pm. I will check into it and report back.

NO! I wouldn't pay for my worst enemy to "eat or dine" at that place. Run. Far away.

I've ate at Catamarans many times and had great meals and the volunteers at Smile are awesome. This is a wonderful thing that they are doing for the community.

Thanks for the suggestions. Since the Rivers Edge is so close, we went ahead and made reservations. Hoping it is good, I know it won't be the same as a regular Thanksgiving meal would be cooked at home, but I have to keep in mind that the whole reasoning behind Thanksgiving is to "give thanks" and I am thankful that, while we are spending Thanksgiving away from our family and friends, we are at least spending it together, which is something that many in our military cannot say.

:yay: Glad I could help. I've been to River's Edge a few times and it's a very nice facility and so far the food has been very good each time I've been there. And you can't beat the view over the Patuxent River. :yahoo:

Enjoy your Turkey Day and hope you can network with some other newbies while enjoying a nice dinner. Welcome to St. Mary's County!

The view sucks, unless you want to look at the parking lot while you are eating so so food.

I've mostly been at the bar and on the back porch, so it was pretty nice in my opinion.

But I agree - the orientation of the building is weird and they should have the main dining area overlooking the view of the river instead of the parking lot.

We had Thanksgiving at Rivers Edge last year and will be going there this year again. Was very good. Not the same as homeade, but sure beats cooking, cleaning and dealing with leftovers!

And, my dear, you will get your first taste of Southern Maryland stuffed ham, because they have it on the menu for TG!

Welcome!

The River's Edge Restaurant on base is hosting a traditional Thanksgiving feast - $20.95/adult, children 6-11 $10.95, 5 and under free. Seatings at 11:30, 12:00, 2:00 and 2:30. Reservations required. Call 301-342-3656.

River's Edge Blue Heron Restaurant

Since they're already on base - this is a perfect idea! :yay:

We had to move the day after Thanksgiving Day one year (Navy) so our pack out was the day before. We went out to eat and it was fine.

After you enjoy your dinner, maybe you can take a drive around the county & enjoy the beauty of fall in Southern Maryland. (well, maybe after a nap after eating a huge TG dinner!!)

Welcome!!

That's one of the best parts of TG, all those yummy leftovers!

My 6 year old's favorite restaurant is the Golden Corral (she gets to make her own ice cream :ohwell:). Since both my dad and my hubby are working that day my mom mentioned something about taking the kids (and me) there. Because of this I am assuming they are open.

Other than Smokin Joes..Anybody else make Deep Fried Turkey? I did hear about a Cajun Dinner at Popeyes for a family but do not know much about that. Thanks!!

Take out sounds good but reheating everything in your micro kitchen will probably annoy you. Plus the whole place will smell like old food for days afterward.

I am thinking about eating out this year. I can always bake a turkey myself if I just want to be able to whine about being sick of turkey leftovers LOL ... although I do LOVE turkey sandwiches Mmmm
