my mom is trying that this year, so she bought two turkeys just incase this one doesn't turn out good.Angel said:According to the man, a brine is any salt solution designed to open the pours of the meat to allow the acceptance of your chosen flavor. Look at any self basting turkey's ingredients list and you will see a salt solution / brine has been injected into the turkey. There is no flavor in that salt solution, so why not make one of your own? That's why it is recommended that you do not use a self basting turkey in your own brine solution. Add the flavors that you like, sweet, savory, salty, peppery, not only does brining a piece of poultry help the flavor of the meat, but also helps insure a moist texture once cooked.
To sum it up ... It's like a marinade.

I am NOT a cook
Christy said:I (well we) just finished with all our night before prep work. We did three double batches of stuffing, a spinach salad, and asparagus wrapped in prosciuto.
I think people who don't cook are missing out, it's really a lot of fun. My nine year old did most of the prep work (chopping onions and celery). We threw on the XM radio and got down to cooking with "Fergilicious". Now that's some family bonding.
All I gotta do tomorrow is throw everything in the oven. My mom is bringing the pies and sweet potatos (I hate those ). My sister is bringing a pumpkin roll and veggie tray. Morgan is bringing some wine.
I LOOOOOOOVE the holidays.
Holy carp! Does that also include our sexy coworker?Mrs. Jones said:I'm going to do some oysters with spinach and prosciuto.
