Wow. You love it? There were two possible outcomes and they are both bad. There's nothing to celebrate.

Well, they COULD try making cars that get really really really good gas mileage, and then sell it at an affordable price.

That would be my first instinct, were I them.
 My Focus gets 35 MPG. That's pretty darn good. Cost less than $12K. Sounds pretty affordable to me.

Thats how them b*tch's R
I wasn't really paying attention, but didn't someone ask the auto big wigs to raise their hands if they were willing to give up such and such (didn't hear exactly what it was) but no one did? Why should we bail them out if they are not willing to cut back on "their spending" ?

They built what people wanted at the time. Gas went up and now they aren't worth owning. They'll get it together here soon and build the people what they need.

To hell with those guys. They are the main reason the companies are in the shape they're in. Come to think of it, just about every big company in America is overly top heavy. Time to send em packin and invest that extra cash into R&D.

"There is a delicious irony in seeing private luxury jets flying into Washington, D.C., and people coming off of them with tin cups in their hand, saying that they're going to be trimming down and streamlining their businesses," Rep. Gary Ackerman, D-New York, told the chief executive officers of Ford, Chrysler and General Motors at a hearing of the House Financial Services Committee.
"It's almost like seeing a guy show up at the soup kitchen in high hat and tuxedo. It kind of makes you a little bit suspicious."
He added, "couldn't you all have downgraded to first class or jet-pooled or something to get here? It would have at least sent a message that you do get it."

I sure wish they'd give that same speech to AIG...:ohwell:

Listening to the news last night, they asked one of the big wigs if he was willing to cut his payroll and work for $1.00. His reply was that last year he made $2.0 MIL and already cut his figure in half. But then it was reported that he raked in about 18.0Mil in bonuses. When they asked if he was willing to work for the 1.00 he said, I am fine right where I am at.

My personall opinion, don't bail them out, they just don't understand it, it has been way to long since they lived the normal life that alot of us are having to live here in SOMD. Everyday I go to work for a small business wondering if I am going to have a job when I walk through the door that day.

.....wonder what they'll do to sell some automobiles NOW, huh?
Did you think about the outcome if this happens? Let's see, 3 majors fold. Millions out of work and that's just the auto industry, unemployment and they will get unemployment checks. Taxes have to go up to cover that. So those of us still working will be paying more taxes. Auto parts industry has to make cuts. More unemployment. Truckers are not hauling cars and parts anymore. More unemployment. People make stupid statements and don't think about the consequences.

Okay......so my initial statement was a bit broad. What I meant was,
"HA! NOW you fat cats need the 'little guy'to bail your a** out." What these folks with their private jets need to do, is live on a working man's salary for a while. If they want to move some automobiles, have something like a 2% sale; you know.....2% over invoice sale. Of course the 2% is a fictitious figure, but most of you get the idea. All these "sale prices" are a crock.

Take Bell Motor Co.; what used to be the oldest dealership in the world; now it's closing. Why? Because 'if you want the car it's going to cost you this much." "It says so right on the window sticker." If these car dealers that are hurting because they're not selling any cars would have a "5% over invoice sale"; for example; they might move some wheels.

I agree 100%. It would not be a bad thing to do the bailout, trust me I am for it as much as against it. I want the bailout to help the small guys, but then you look at the "Bigwigs" and how much they are making, and that does not help a thing.

Why couldn't they put a salary cap on a job like this, especially at this point in time. Gov. should say ok, if we are going to bail you out, you have to cut your pay to such and such dollar amount, and make it something reasonable. The 1.00 would really be a slap in the face. Make it something more manageable for there position within the company.

Can someone explain to me why someone in charge of a multi billion dollar business and 200,000+ employees should work for $1 a year?
