To be fair, the republic fell well before the empire fell, and even then the Byzantine empire lived on for another good seven hundred years after the fall of the western empire.
But a lot of people think in short term. They think about what's happening now, not in five years, ten years. Entropy is a constant and nothing, no matter how bright it's foundations, can maintain it's shape.
For some reason certain beliefs about "what is tradition" is being regarded as sacrosanct, as pillars of our culture. I'm not sure why.

As long as they aren't using my stolen earnings (some people call them tax dollars) for the "dragoplasty", I'm having a hard time finding one single feck to give about this dumb broad wanting to become a dragon or a bar of soap.

No law is going to make a difference, Vrai. If a predator wants to get to someone in the bathroom then he will dress like a woman and walk in or simply walk in. Really what do you think, Mr Pedophile is going to say to himself, "Hmm, it's against the law to go in this bathroom I'll have to find another way to get little Suzy". He's an f'n predator, he doesn't care about the law regardless of what it is! If he did then he wouldn't be trying to get Suzy in the first place. What you and others are espousing is nothing but a lame ass excuse to discriminate against transgender people and you do so because you don't like the ones who don't "pass".

Despite her opposition to the law, Selisse Berry, founder and CEO of Out & Equal Workplace Advocates, hasn't encouraged companies to leave North Carolina even if they oppose the recent legislation. Out & Equal is a nonprofit group based in San Francisco and Washington, D.C., advocating for workplace equality for the LGBT community.
"Whether it be in India or Indiana, we don’t encourage a company to pack up their offices and leave when anti-LGBT legislation gets passed," Berry told ABC News. "Rather, we encourage them to remind their local governments about the importance of LGBT diversity and inclusion."
Berry said she applauds companies like Bank of America, the largest private employer in North Carolina, that are working toward repealing the legislation.
"The biggest impacts are made not by quitting or pulling the jobs of thousands of hardworking Americans and moving states but by staying and doing the serious and focused work of making things better," she said.
