The courage of Devout Christians

Bustem, I challenge you to find me one, just one, example of someone being beheaded in this country because of their religion.
That was part of my point. The benefits of democracy and freedom of religion speak for themselves. In my view, no religious sect should be in charge of any government anywhere. If we were the equivalent of Saudi Arabia or Pakistan, non-Christians wouldn't even be allowed in the service academies and would have to live under a religious version of Jim Crow. The fact that the problems in Colorado Springs are getting attention by lawmakers and journaists says a lot about democracy.

Go the frig back to Tokyo or Poland or wherever you came from, if it's so wonderful there and the US is such a terrible place. Nobody's stopping you.

So you think that if there is something that is wrong one should leave instead of trying to change it? Sounds like running away to me or undemocratic. If you think abortion is ok maybe you should leavce SOMD and go live in Calif. or Mass since you made your view known in that area. You're not going to give others their say in things that we do not agree with you without saying leave? :duh:

Yes, especially when the rest of us think it's just fine. Who made you Imperial Grand Poohbah?

How old are you?

beheaded maybe not but shot yes. I remember I was on the way to Operation Enduring Freedom right after 9/11 and I remember violence including murder of people who were Muslim or remotely looked Muslem. I remember one specific case that a Sikh was shot and killed because someone thought he was a Muslim.

What make you think the REST of you think that way? Maybe a majority but I bet most of the ones that doesn't agree with you won't speak out since SOMD tend to swing towards the right in politics and they don't want to be flamed.

In the past people thought it was ok to use derogatory names with some minority groups. In some cases they were lynched. Eventually enough people spoke out and found a charismatic leader. Laws got changed. It's not perfect even now but it's an improvement.

Why are you asking me? You seem to think of yourself as the Queen. Your word is law and everyone else who disagree with you is an idiot or should leave?

I'll be 34 later this year.

In America? And was it standard practice? And did the cops not do anything about it? And did our President glorify them and say how they struck a blow for Christianity and America?

People have the right in a democratic society to question and complain and try to change things if they feel that way. Are you saying that is wrong?

Does it matter if it's a standard practice or not? It's wrong either way whether it's Iraqis killing their own civilians and U.S. and allied troops or Americans killing Muslims or people who may look "Middle Eastern."

"I don't want to speak out because I'm afraid all the wingnuts will be mean to me :bawl:"

Such brave crusaders.

it was never not against the law to lynch blacks, at least not in modern times. I get sick of people with their "Hate America First" bullshit, like the US is supposed to be oh-so perfect and if someone so much as shoplifts, it means all of America is a toilet just like Ethiopia and our President is Hitler and worse than Saddam Hussein.

I like it here. You don't hear me complaining much about the US because there's no place on earth I'd rather live. I don't long for the auld sod or wish the buffalo still roamed free. I like my flush toilets and my high speed wireless and if some buffalo had to die for me to get it, oh well.

So when you talk about wanting to change something that I don't think needs changing, I'm going to disagree with you and tell you to go live somewhere that you'll be happy rather than spoil MY happiness. If that makes me a queen, so be it.

I've seen thier churches firebombed.

...to the FACT that during the Clinton years when there was an 'epedemic' of church arsons investigators established that virtually all the rise in black church fires was due to arson, yes, for insurance fraud. Commited by the pastors and members.

Is there violent crime in the US? Yes. Comparable, in any way, to the article?

It must be mind blowing Thursday...

I think we earned to speak our minds more than the average person in SOMD.

You more equal or something? You serve voluntarily and the training and pay aren't enough? You misunderstand something about the relationship between our military and the people?

Boy, how about I list you a list a mile long of people in history who think that way?

You won't be flattered.

That is your right but you told us to leave the country not the area. I grew up or lived in mostly blue states before I came here...NY, CA, WA......even FL where lived longest isn't strongly Republican. What irked me most was not that you disagreed with me but how you sometime do it in dedrading way. I'd take different view better if doesn't include things like :duh: in your posts. I often feel very differently from what 2A posts but it never bothers me much because I do not feel that he is personally attacking anyone. So instead of getting defensive I read more cafefully and think.

Actually I kind of stated that as a joke since Bustem stated that we were going to get flamed. I probably should have posted that with a  and as a PM.
