Valid point. It would be different if they went around telling people they were doomed to burn in a lake of fire for eternity. And even doctrines such as Original Sin make claims about the natural world. I question why any religious doctrine has to deal with the natural world at all, because the claims end up trying to define people. And I question the goal or merit of religions making claims about the supernatural. If it's a good thing that humans "do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly," what difference should it make if one person believes in a single deity and another person believes in tree spirits?
