I have had the pleasure of two young houseguests this weekend (4 and 7) and they are a handful. I'm sitting here watching their Mom rip her hair out  and remembering when it was me.

And it's renewed my disdain for kidless kennedys without a clue who say, "There's no need to get upset. Just tell them....."

:lmao:

Last night the 4 year old decided he didn't like his snow boots, or his coat, or his mittens. So we told him, look, you have to put on gear or you can't go outside. But nooooooo! He had a mini-meltdown because he wanted his Mom to magically conjure up some new outerwear for him.

Did your mother ever wish you grew up to have children like you? It always happens. I was a good teenager but my eldest is showing signs of being his father - perhaps he should spend the teen years there - after all, it his punishment, not mine. Then again, I never turn down a project.

Oh yeah, I got the curse. I am most afraid of the things I did that my parents never found out.. :eyebrow:

Mine is good at that. Recent meltdowns include him breaking a toy that I don't know how to fix (But you HAVE to fix it!!!!!! :tantrum), wanting to wear a tank top to the grocery store, and not wanting to eat whatever breakfast I have provided for him. His dad was a pain in the ass, I'm thinking it's in his genes. :lmao:

Yes, I remember it well

Unfortunately for my friend, she was also my roommate before Larry - therefore she lived with my kids when they were young. She was fussing at one of the boys about something and I told him, "Man, your Ma never used to be this mean - she used to say it was no big deal if kids didn't want to go potty before we left the house or if they spilled cereal on the floor."

We had fun yesterday. Four year old wants hot chocolate after playing in the snow. My wife dares to put marshmallows in, so he has a tantrum. We fix that, and he's fine until he spills it all over himself and the kitchen. No problem, accidents happen, but he is freaked. I tell him we'll just do his bath early. He's so wound up he starts coughing until he starts puking while standing in the hall way. I finally get him and the daughter into the bathroom, get them bathed, run the carpet cleaner over the puke, etc.

Of course, this whole episode started while the wife had to work, so I got all the fun to myself.

What gets me is parents who get mad at their kids for what I just described. Sure it's frustrating, but I'm more likely to get mad when they refuse to eat or they do something they know they shouldn't like using markers on the cat.
