Thrift Stores

I live in California, and we are going to have a baby in July, and I was hoping to find a thrift store close by, to look for baby things... I'm still pretty new to the area, so I don't know if there are any nearby..Thanks!

There used to be one in Leonardtown in the shopping center where Food Lion is. They strictly dealt with baby and childrens clothing and furniture. Anyone know if it's still around?

It's yard sale season, best baby stuff I've ever seen. A lot of stuff I've seen is brand new, with tags still attached.

I am so very blessed
There's a place in Calvert in the same little strip shopping center as the Lusby Post Office that sells really nice quality children's clothes on consignment. I've not been there personally, but my sister picked up a few things for me for my bebe, and they looked to be in very nice shape. The listing of items that they take is pretty discriminating; they only take well-used better name brand items. Cheap stuff and badly-worn items are turned away.

I'm sorry that I don't have the specific name of the business (Calver Kids, maybe?) or a phone number, bu they shouldn't be that difficult to find.

Good luck!

S.M.I.L.E in Lusby on H.G. Trueman road next to Middleham Episcopal church probably has the largest selection.

The thrift store in Leonardtown next to Food Lion is no longer there. But there is a thrift store in Leonardtown, down the street from the Leonardtown Post Office.

:yeahthat: My sister and I are having a yard sale at my house this weekend, and she is selling TONS of her kids clothes and toys. We just got finished going through the clothes and everything still looks brand new.

I would definately start with yard sales, could be cheaper than a thrift store. And you find great stuff. :yay:

If you do buy a crib 2nd hand, make sure you check that it has not been recalled, and that the slats on the side are close enough together (don't want the bebe's head getting stuck between them).

I hate agreeing with mrweb, but he's right. We get name brand stuff for cheap. A lot of well to do people donate there.

Example: A tommy outfit, with tags still attached, $1

I dont know if we need a crib yet, we have one that someone is going to give us, but they may fall through... We are mostly looking for a swing, and stuff like that, bouncy seats, etc...

Thanks for all the replies, I'll check these places out!

Does the Naval Station have a thrift store? I used to go to the one on Andrews AFB years ago when my kids were small for some great deals on clothes (this has been about 10 years ago, however). Before that I went to a thrift store on base in NY when my husband was stationed there, and got some great stuff there too. I had good luck with the military ones.

I was told the Salvation Army or Goodwill (whichever is right across from the Waldorf Wal-Mart) has half-price clothes on Wednesdays. I had heard this last summer, but I never went in to check it out.
