Tires..

I've got Michelin Pilot Road 2s on my bike.. and I'm just getting ready to break 10K on them. I'm assuming I need to change them out pretty damn soon.

Problem is I used to take the wheels off of the bike and take them up to Annapolis Motor Sports. They would beat the online price (SWMOTO) and only charge $25 - 35 per tire to mount and balance (again, with the wheels off of the bike).

Now AMS has moved to the Eastern Shore, a little too far to travel for tires, and looking for a new supplier. I REALLY don't want to have to spend $300 per tire to get them put on the bike. Of course the other option is to buy the NoMAR tire changer and do it myself.

Anyone??

I recently dealt with Rich at Evolution Cycles in Valley Lee. 301 994-9818 He changed a tube in a tire after his regular hours and treated me right on the price too. I would definately recommend him.

Jags? Nice and close, Dutch had a mag wheel done there we didn't want to mess with. I don't remember the cost, but he might.

Can't remember where I saw it, but I remember reading an article about an annual Harley gathering where they string up a Honda and burn it in a bonfire. Wonder what they would do with a Beamer....

Ok, not implying that Jags is that way, just a random thought blowing thru the cobwebs of my mind.

I have heard that from about a dozen people now, but still haven't made it down there to check him out myself...

Old front tire on the Vic, tubeless... New tire... they put a tube in... Not sure why

Best I ever got from a rear tire was 8500. Front lasts a long time.

Most of them have a dual compound tire now.

Harder rubber in the center for longer life, and softer rubber on the shoulders for better cornering and handling..

I've HEARD rumors of some people getting >16,000 miles on the new Pilot Road 2 tires. I feel lucky getting 10,000. First set of Dunlops on the last bike lasted about 4500.

Did you have the tire replaced at a Harley shop, or predominant Harley service center?

Rick at Evo is a Harley guy at heart, but did the fork seals on my 83 nighthawk well, at a good price, and timely. My friends 91 Honda Hawk got some stuff doen there also.

I signed up just so I could join in on givin Rich Kudos....I know his shop has mostly Harleys in it, but he really does like my Honda....He's done some great work for me, and I can't recommend him enough. Local business man that cares about his work and his customers. I bought a set of Avon Venom's from him, and i'm VERY impressed at the mileage I've gotten. Not documented, but I probably have close to 8K on the rear, and it looks like new and closer to 15K on the front, and it still looks great. AWESOME Tires, and a pretty good deal actually.

I missed this thread earlier but if you haven't changed your tire yet check out Serge Performance. He got my tire (Dunlop E3) below any price I could find on the net and charged $55 for mounting and balancing. That was the on bike cost so it would probably be cheaper if you brought him the wheel sans bike.

Sounds like a road trip to AMS. Find out what there is to do nearby, see if they will reserve a time so you know you only have an hour to kill, have them drop you off and pick you up somewhere for lunch, then have a nice overnighter.
