Somebody give me the easy idiot's guide to TIVO, i.e., is it easy to use, easy to set up, do you pay a monthly fee, recommendations on the type to get. Okay, GO!

I love my Tivo! Go to Tivo site, check out deal offered NOW. They do run specials. I have a life time membership on one machine ( no longer available) and pay only 5 something for the second as a customer in good standing. The setup can be kinda confusing. Do you have a dish?, cable? With Cable you have to have extended basic, with box, with dish it will work ( they tell you it won't ),but I either don't have mine set up right or it is not possible to watch one channel and record another, thus have to watch what you are recording if you want to be in the room.
If you have HDTV you have to have a HD recorder which will not work with Dish.
With Tivo, you can rent movies from Amazon, they will go directly to your Tivo to watch on your tv. You have to have a wireless router and a wireless reciever ( I have them too ) Do you want to buy my Tivo??

I hope this helps you some.

We have Direct TV.

Then you should go with the DVR offered by Direct TV. You will love it. Record shows to watch later. Fast forward through ads and stop live TV ( go to bathroom, make a sandwich etc. ), you will be surprised how spoiled you will quickly become.

Another thing ( I forgot ) about Tivo, if you have the wireless receivers and more then one Tivo you can send a show ( movie ) to another room for viewing.

Have it, Love it, Don't know how I did without it....Once you figure it out (Not too hard) there is soooooooooooooo much you can do with it....If I am watching something and my eyes start to fade, all I do is push one little orange botton to record and go to bed and watch it at my convenience ...It's great, you'll love it...

Yes you can use TIVO w/ Directv. I think it is $4.95 a month service charge though... but however it is soooooo worth it.
